Hiya,
I am just about to start racing my ZX-5 and thought I would pick some of your brains to ask a quick question please. What are the main bits that break most often from your experience with racing/ running these buggies so I can hold a few of these extra spares to try and avoid being out of action at the race? I know it is impossible to hold eveything but i would imagine there must be weak areas which break more commonly. Thanks, also can anyone recommend the best place to buy Lazer spares from? I have broken a front wishbone, the front plastic wishbone holder (which is definitely a weak point) and a rear shock tower mount.

get an alloy front pivot block, an alloy front shock tower mount, and fit an atomic carbon shock tower at the front, doubled up against the kit shock tower. Your car will then be bullet proof. Also shim the diffs one shim tighter than the manual and make sure the slipper always has a tiny bit of slip. The car should be reliable as anything then.

The only thing I break on my SP is the chassis...
I've done 3 now.

tbh they just wear out. The rest of the car is SP with the above shock tower mods and metal shock tower mounts, so it's fairly tough and will take most minor racing impacts, but as I've been running it for 2 years now and replace wishbones before they get sloppy eventually the chassis becomes the weak link. It's a fairly easy swap - takes about 10min if everything goes well.

Hiya,
Cheers for all the advice will look into these bits, got the kit form version but it has the carbon chassis and uprated alloy turnbuckles and carbon rear shock tower. Pleased with it and i am going to go to my first race at Seaham on Sunday all being well if i get the electrics sorted in time. Thanks Simon |

best bet is take it along to the club as it is and ask around the members, one of them is bound to have owned a ZX5 at some point and they can have a look over yours and give you some tips.
They are a good solid car if built right, with a few choice upgrades

Good stuff, hopefully see you there at some point then, I will be the new guy bricking myself with nerves not knowing anyone and having barely ever raced before (3 heats with my Nitro 1/8 Losi) and never with electric 1/10 scale and never indoors. Will just be trying to get around without crashing into anyone lol
