Default Snobbery

rc has changed hasnt it....

instead of me wanting a car with a motor and a battery like i use to i now have to have lipo, brushless and 40mhz/2.4ghz

so i have to ask

if i already have lipo and 40mhz what do i need to learn ?

and i say learn because i dont want to be competetive when i cant get the thing round the track i want to learn how to be competetive

or am i just waffling like stampy ? and the point im missing is that to get anywhere i need the modern gadgets ?

Not everything needs to be modern imo.. I'm going to use a 10 year old servo.. I could have used my 27mhz radio gear I suppose, but i fancied something cool.. 40mhz would still be viable.. maybe even more so as everyone else will be on 2.4 so you'll be guaranteed a free frequency. I think the bits that matter are the batteries, motor and esc.

If you have old stuff that works then just use it and then when you get better then you can start upgrading. I have found that I have some of the latest stuff but in fact it is just too fast and making my driving quite bad. Well that is my excuse!

but is it image, i can see why modern is better well i know why ive used it, but stupidly im looking forwards to going backwards when my brushed esc arrives im excited to remember what we used to put up with and the labour intensive nature of brushed

but i would like a nice sensored esc and motor with some reedy lipos spektrum dxsr and a nice savox servo, however if i had a job and wasnt a student it might happen

Nope, not the case. I turned up at the Eden Park event just before the nats and made the A with an old Futaba servo, old cells and a second hand motor and esc. Its not the tech that gets the results but sometimes does help but in most cases its just luck of the draw, good setup and determination, not the equipment.

Setups are posted for most makes of cars so best bet would be to try the four best drivers set ups ad see which one suits your style of driving, yes a little tweak here and there should move you leaps and bounds.
