Default Driver or Car? What makes the biggest difference?

Whether you drive a Tamiya, Associated, Losi, Traxxas, 2wd, 4wd, Mardave..... the age old question is, what makes a driver good....is it the car itself or is it the driver?

or the biggest question first, have I set this poll thread up correctly

Driver, without doubt.

Pidge could drive a 3 wheeled brick into the A-final at most Nationals, however if Pidge lent me his 502 it would come back very upset and unhappy lol

In modern RC, the driver for sure!
All current cars can be winning cars, the best drivers are there because of their skills.

Driver all the time.

Watching Mssr's Bloomfield, Martin et al on Sunday I think they could drive a Manta Ray round and still beat the majority!

Driver for sure, but using top drivers for comparison is a bit dodgy. Remember is you are really really good you can drive anything. Case to point, watch Top Gear where the presenters describe some supercar as being a handful at the limit. The video will be full of them struggling, spinning etc - but then the Stig has a go and its like ballet.

And thats the thing. If you are awesome, you can drive any car and do well, but if you are average at best, some are more suitable than others. Top drivers can handle twitchy, loose cars - in fact, they may go best with them, but club racers are better with smooth, stable cars.

Spose set-up is classed as 50/50 as to driver or car tho, you could argue that the driver needs the skill to know how to set up the car up properly, however could also argue that a well set up car makes for a better car overall

IMO the closer to the sharp end you get, the equipment play's a larger part. It's still mostly the driver but unless everything is working as a whole finding that last little bit of speed is that much harder.

Driver for sure.

however an average driver with a good car will out perform an average driver with a bad car.

Only did this with a Mini-Z, but I had a 5 minute run against someone last year, and with our own cars, he beat me by about 5-10 laps. We switched cars, and I beat him by about the same ammount. My car was the faster of the two, but his was more stable.

Ok, I did choose car, but it is a combination of car, setup and driver.
