Default Associated on a durga? Help Please

Hi all,

I bought a Front and Rear associated spring set for my Durga as they offered more range and I was told they池e better than the tamiya ones. At the moment I知 running Plastic dampers and the rear bore is larger than the front so the rear associated springs are a very tight squeeze.

I do plan to get some alloy dampers soon. Do the DB01/501x alloy option dampers work with the associated spring set?

Any recommendations on a good setup, my friend and I struggled a little this weekend but got better through the day.

I知 running 40w front with 1 hole and silver springs set full vertical, and i知 running 30w rear with two holes and green springs set as flat as possible. Its working better now but with the tight fitting rears there sticking a bit and i think i知 loosing a bit of droop. Im also on the stock tamiya K type tyres and was grip rolling a little hence the stiffer more vertical front setup, it seamed to work.

I知 running on NiMh too so im fully weighted

The Tamiya option dampers are a perfect fit for the AE springs and it's definitely the way to go. The dampers are so much better than the plastic CVA ones. Having the springs sticking on the bodies will ruin the handling

The Durga springs are stiffer than the Associated ones and were actually what I preferred on the car when I had one.

40w and 30w oil in the kit plastic dampers is very, very light. The kit setting is pretty good, maybe you cold use a slightly lighter oil in the rear than the #900 supplied.

Right, Tamiya 501X dampers (very important that, rear shocks are shorter than the hop-up ones).

Front, 1.3mm pistons, 2mm spacer under piston, 35wt oil, AE silver springs

Rear, 1.4mm pistons, 3mm spacer under piston, 30wt oil, AE silver springs

Cool thanks for the tips.

it was wired with the stock oil and spring setup, i kept slamming the deck on jumps and bottoming out every where to the point i was catching the floor up and over the cobble bank and the join between the flat area below the astro turf bank at bury. With the setup i have now it was much better but it was only a temp setup till i could afford the options as the AE springs where only 」20 for the two sets and i need to buy the A/B carbon reinforced parts as i broke the rear wheel off.

TRF options is my next purchase :-p then some LiPo's!

I've got the hop-up TRFs on my DB-01, so I'm wondering what the overall length of the 501 shocks are.

DCM: could you post total length of your shocks, with the quoted spacers under the pistons for comparison?

I'm interested to know the difference between the 501 shocks and the TRF buggy shocks too. I thought they were the same thing?!?!

If not, where can I get hold of the 501 shocks, as I haven't seen them anywhere for sale as a unit. I was gonna get the TRF ones and the atomic-carbon rear towers, but if the 501 shocks fit the standard towers, I'd rather get those.

The only difference between the original 501X shocks and the TRF hop-ups are the shafts. The #54028 ones are a few mm longer, these are the same shocks used on the 501X WE.

The bodies are the same length so the compression travel issue remains on the DB-01 towers.

You can compensate for the longer shafts with a few more spacers. Personally I was running the shocks so that rear droop saw the centre of the wheel axle just above level with the bottom of the chassis, and front droop was a couple of mm higher than that. Gave a good ride and the dogbones didn't fall out of the back.

I used to run B4 dampers on my Durga, with the Durga kit springs. Pukka setup - 35w in the front, 30w in the rear. Stuck like the proverbial s**t to a blanket.
