Look at it as a rite of passage thing Ashley. This will be my third year doing regionals and i might consider trying to do nationals next year but i know i am not really good enough. I finished my first year dead last and went from F5 to F5.... Last year i made F3 in 4wd but i have to say my 2wd driving leaves a lot to be desired. I did go to the F3's and had a great time made the C final in 4wd, my cars even made it onto oople, which was cool.

Dont think you can expect to be in the nationals if your still F5 which I assume you are.
I wouldnt bother applying for nationals until I was F3, I might never do them. Regionals are great and you can get up to F2 in them, why not do lots of regionals to get your formula rating up instead of moaning because you didnt make nationals.

Do people not read posts i have already said im going to do loads of regionals and i am going for my F3 but nationals are in a total diffrent league to regionals cus you stay there all day and drink and have fun and relax after racing and you see a diffrent side to people. People who you think are really serious sort of wake up nad become totally mad this i what i love about nationals where regionals as soon as it is over everyone is tidied up and in the car in a split second there is a totally diffrent atmoshere.

Regionals do last all day. I imagine regionals are more relaxed than nationals as theres less people so its not as competitive.

ash what the hell are you on about, english please, you know all this by attending 1 national at oswestry. at the end of the day if your coming last at regional then as long as your arse points down you shouldnt be doing nationals. think you will find it very hard to gain f3 in west mids in your first year

Try not to worry too much Ashley, it is still early days yet. I think we all knew that we mere lower grades would struggle to get into the national events, but still being a reserve at least means they haven't told you where to go
I was a reserve at most nationals last year, and was offered a place much closer to the event.
So keep your fingers and toes crossed and make sure Jackie etc has the right telephone number for you!
Good luck, I am sure you'll get into some more,
Vicky x

On a similar note Ashley, we haven't even heard anything back yet! I wasn't expecting to quite so soon, it doesn't seem like long since we sent the entry form in, although I realise the deadline was this week.

Has anyone else received their entry packs? Ashley are you in for Tiverton 2wd and 4wd?

If it makes you feel better ash, vicky is only F5 - and I am only F4. I am not sure I will get into my races either. I was F3 last year and F4 the year before- but things were different when I started doing nationals in 2003, its just got more and more popular.

the brca are not to blame for your lack of preparation, there are only 24 hours in a day which means you can only fit in so many races, there is a limit of 130 racers in 13 heats, quite rightly as it is the national event we want to see the top tier of drivers, all the drivers are graded either on their performance over the previous national year and who gained F1 or national F2 grades (in 4wd this went down to at least position 55) then the racers who completed their regional series and gained F2 to f5. everybody knew last year that to ensure a place you really needed to be an F3. you did not do regionals and to be honest racing at the nationals should not include drivers without the sort of experience you gain from doing regionals. so you can blame all the F1 to f4's who applied this year and you can blame yourself for not doing regionals just don't blame the brca.

Mine didn't come today, hopefully it will be here Monday. Last year i was an F5 and was reserve for nearly every meeting, but i turned up on the day and got into everyone. This year i am an F3 so hopefully i will be in to a few more if not all.

I have never applied for any nationals and am probably never going to, but I heard that your application was taken more seriously if you tried to get into every event (which indicates you are less likely to drop out) Is this true?

not quite true, priority is given to applicants who apply to do enough scoring rounds ie 4, if you only apply for one or two then it is unlikely you will get in, that said joe only applied for 5 nationals last year as an f4 got into 4 and was 19th reserve for the last one, he was given a place quite quickly after only a couple of nationals, so i wouldnt be too concerned about being a reserve for the later nationals.
