Only reason why it should not work in Lipo mode is if the Lipo is flat, fully charge the battery then try it.

Have you got the setup on Lipo on the sphere
Your battery may be dead
Have you ran the lipo with the Sphere yet, may have discharge it too much as not on lipo cutoff

So if you turn the speedo into nicad/nimh mode does it work with your lipo?

apparenty its a common prob but they sell it with lipo cut out so it should work so it should be replaced im sure i rang trading standards at earlier and they agreed ive got to ring them in the morning and they will take it further so we will see.

Have you measured the battery voltage under load? Even a fully charged battery if its not great could drop in voltage under load, though not sure how likely that is with a lipo?

Yeah, I'm with you on this, if LRP sells an ESC where the customer is told it has LiPo cut-off, then for that software to fail, then they should replace/repair it, especially as LRP ESC's have their 'lifetime warrenty'.

Don't threaten them, but call them and mention trading standards. Normally gets stuff done faster. It's a shame it would have to come to that though.

Unless of course there is something that you have done wrong at some point that voids the warrenty policy and you haven't mentioned here. In that case you have no leg to stand on really.

If you are using a "lower" powered LIPO then it wont deliver the power under extreme loads and WILL cut out, that is NOT the fault of the ESC but is in fact the lower spec LIPO's for the intended "Pro Competiton" style setting of the cut off. What exact LIPO's are you using since you dont say??

I think what LRP are saying is they know the "cut off" will "cut out" on lower C rated packs, this is in the programming and nothing they can do about it/neccasarily "wrong" with it - just how it is.

As said just run it on NImh mode and time it if you run for longer than a 5 mintute run or upgrade your LIPO's to ones that can deliver the power required to stay above the cut off threshold.

If you dont fancy this route and you think it has a "fault" then make sure your ESC goes back to SMD (LRP "Official" distributor/repairer) preferably through the UK shop you got it from (assuming it was UK sourced) accompanied by the purchase reciept and that your warranty card has already been filled out and sent in too.

His first post mentions it's a trakpower lipo, and a later post mentions it's quite new, but doesn't mention it's capacity, or how they are charged / equalised. He also mentions he's tried other lipo's as well, and although there's no mention of what spec they are he has tried to eliminate the battery as the fault.

Does anyone happen to know what voltage the Sphere's should theoretically cut out at?

I have to say it doesn't sound good for LRP based on the info we have so far.

[Edit] He also mentions LRP have agreed it's the ESC and therefore them that's at fault! Have you tried doing what Darren DMS has suggested and return it via the place you got it from? Sounds like the most official way you could do it to me!

The reason I mentioned it is because I tried using the cutout using nimh cells (as tbh they didn't love being too flat either!), and it would cut out loads as under load the voltage would drop. For nimhs the voltage not under load could still be nearly maximum.

Wouldn't expect as bigger issue on Lipo, but not sure what LRP set the cut off voltage to, or even if it's consistent esc to esc, does anyone know?

What I do know is I used the cutoff while practising at the players championship, and mine let the lipo go down to 2.5v per cell, way too low, nearly lost my cells from that!! So I don't actually trust the cutoff anyway!

Default cut offs

sounds like jamie booth is trying to insult matt. so the cut off only works correctly with new 40c lipo's used by serious racers where's it say that in the instructions? and if thats the case why does it not have a miniuim battery spec in the instructions? so you heard it here first all you club racers and fun hobbie men dont by lrp becouse these are not for you.
you dont have the technical know how to understand the cut off peramiters oh yes dont forget no one runs these for more than 6mins its the unwritten rule your all meant to know!!! it should do as it says on the tin thats the top and bottom of it
