Default Event Advice

Hi all,

A few friends and me are considering traveling over to England from Northern Ireland for a race meeting or two. I was wondering if anybody could suggest some good meetings to look at traveling too.

Racing wise none of us have raced 1/10th on off-road tracks, we run indoors 19t on polished wood with the occasional wooden jump. I would love to run outdoors but there is no tracks here for that sort of racing

Timing wise would probbaly in may ~ september range.

As an extra I would quite like to take photos at the track so it would be nice if it was a good track for photos as an added bonus.

Hmmm, I'm about to fall asleep so dont listen to me. Southport I guess is one of the closest tracks to you in terms of jumping off the ferry? Thats a guess, never been to NI.
Then straight down the M62 you have Bury metro and then batley - then york if they ever get a track sorted.

In 10th they don't really have many big meetings that I can think of - outside of all the regionals, nationals etc.. no big one-off meetings, those are usually in winter.
CML raceway might hold a big meeting sometime this year - but no clue as to when and it IS a bit of a trek for you, but worth it.

In terms of taking photos, most of them are pretty good- some of the 'regional tracks' that are on flat grass are not so good. but the permenant tracks usually are.. Kidderminster (see the photos from sunday) is one of the good ones, since there is some nice dirt areas and elevation changes so you can get some dramatic shots.
Southport I don't find to be that good for photos, the track is half in shade and it is hard to get in a good position, no real jumps to shout about.. but hey, its a damn sight better than a school hall, so you'll probably love it!

Southport WILL be having it's GP this year, hopefully an all weekend jobby, final date wil lbe sorted at the end of this month.

The GP would be pretty ideal for you, if pulled off, a full weekend of racing will occur, sometime before the national - fingers crossed in June or July, so hopefully the turn out will be pleantyful!

I remember going to the GP in Southport years ago. It was a great event. Some of the Losi team came over for it (BK Pops Jnr. etc.)

If they are going to run a GP it would be a worth while event to go to.

For something a little closer.....
There will also be off-road racing in Dublin during the summer. With the new motor way(s), it's only a 2 hr or so drive.

We're in the process of getting a new track ready for the summer.

Have a look at the club site for more details.

Thanks for the advice so far everybody

The GP sounds like it could be a really good weekend to go over too. We were considering seeing if there was any 2 meetings nearby that we go to more than one event in the time going over there.

As for the racing in dublin it sounds very interesting, how often would you be running the racing? I know at least 2 people would be interested in going regularily down there for racing.

We're planning on runing every week-end. Morethen likely on the Sunday.

The track is still a bit damp after the winter and being 'fresh' ground. Hopefully it will dry out in the next week or two so we can start laying a track and getting some cars on it.
