Post Set Up X6 Squared

Hi guys

Have just purchased a B4 FT that am converting to a X6 squared. Have got the e-speed hangers for it and at the moment will be running assoc shocks till can afford losi shocks. Can any one please give me an idea for a good basis setup running this type of shocks? Hopefully be racing again in the NE region when i get home from my present job. Also what type of brushless motor would be the best for it? Not raced in around 9 years so little rusty. Dont want anything that will put the front wheels in the air to easy. My last 2wd was run on a 12x3 and on 2400 nicads, i know things have moved on but whould like advice on a nice smooth motor and also what cells to run.

Any advive would be very apprciated

Many thanks

Windy.

There is nothing wrong with the AE shocks. Some people seem to like the Losi shocks better. I run the Losi shocks because I have been running them for years and they are what I am used to. I would reccomend a 7.5 Brushless. I run a 6.5 but it has loads of power. If you plan on running a brushed motor then try a 13T or so.

I run a novak 8.5t in my X6, which I like, I run mainly indoors with it though so it suits the track size nicely for me, and is still very competitive against 6.5's and 7.5's on the same track. If I ran outdoors more often a 7.5 might be more appropriate.

I've just swapped from the associated shocks to the losi ones, and mostly to find out what the fuss is all about! From what I've seen and heard, some people find it harder to build the associated ones consistently, whereas the losi ones do look a little easier.

I did get used to building the associated ones and actually quite liked them, but the losi shocks do feel different on the car, I'd say the damping feels more fluid, although it's hard to describe, and I've only run them once or twice since I made the change.

Another option is running losi pistons inside associated shocks though, which cost wise is much cheaper than buying a full losi set. It's the pistons that seem to make the biggest difference, the losi ones are more rounded and smoother than the associated ones, which would explain the difference.

Post Set up more questions?

Thanks guys for advice so far

But what sort of losi pistons should run and would a set up running like the car on losi shocks be ok but using ae spirings and shock bodies etc. Got losi pistons at home orange and red think in what can remember they was 55 on orange and 56 on red is that right and would they need drilling out like what was done on the old xxcr when they ran 566 or 556? Any help also on cmber link positions etc would be helpful.

Cheers

Windy

No just use reds all round with 32.5/35wt up front and 25wt in the rear, and i would go with blue front springs and a silver/ grey rear if you are going with ae shocks, this will be as close as you can get to a losi setup

I would just keep you AE shocks the same as you had them for your B4. Stick 30 wt oil in the rear and 35 in the front and you'll not be too far away. Thats all i did and the car felt great. Think I had green springs on the rear for grass but switched to silver for astro. I used blue front springs as after trying silvers i didn't like them. On the rear I was on the middle wishbone hole and the inside tower hole. I would use a 78T spur and make sure you read the weight distribution thread as this is very important. As far as motors Ive used a 5.5, 7.5 and 8.5 in mine and as long as you get the right pinion on you'll be ok...

Windy, you don't say where you are going to run the car, and that makes all the difference in motor selection.

When considering motor selection you also need to take into account the 'C' rating of your lipos. The difference between a 20c and a 35c feels like a wind hotter on the motor. Ie 8.5/35c will feel much like 7.5/20c.

Cheers,
Scott
