Default 1:10 Off Road Racing in South Devon?

Hi, anybody from here race in South Devon? Think there's a club that meet in Marldon, though don't know if they run 1:10?

Would be good to hear from anyone on the Torbay area.

Cheers
BB

I take it Devon isn't exactly a hotbed of RC racing activity...

Hi Bertber, we are not in south devon but Tiverton Radio Control Car Club has a track in Wellington, Somerset. I think this is the only 10th off road track around the south west, correct me if mistaken. If you PM me about contacts. also the website is http://www.trccc.co.uk/ and we also have a section on here http://www.oople.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=98

The next race is the 14th March, 21 days time, we mainly only race 2wd, we do have a tarmac track which we race on the same day.

As for Marldon that is Torbay RAC, http://www.torbayoffroadracing.co.uk/, they do mainly nitro/ electric 8th stuff,

Thanks for links guys, I've already looked into the Marldon club, but dismissed that because it's nitro only and being an old elec 1:10 basher, I'm not sure I like the idea of nitro..., shame as it's only 5 mins from the house.

Looked at the Tiverton website, looks quite impressive, shame that's not just up the road... Need to decide whether a 2 hour return trip is really practical with all the other responsibilities I have now - married with a little lad!

Probably be good to pop along to a club night / race day and have a chat with some of you regulars - coolcars will you be there on the 14th March? What time do things usually kick off?

I'd like to do 2WD elec' but not sure at this stage what would be a good cost effective starter buggy that I could use for racing but also use to bash around the park with my son? Thinking of maybe a new Mad Rat / X-Pro or maybe a used Losi XXX BK2 or TA B4... Hmmm, probably best to see what everyone else is using / recommends before buying anything...

It'll be easier if you call me Carl then coolcars.

Yes i will be there on the 14th March.

We start booking in at about 9.30am and start racing at about 10.00am, finish about 1.30pm - 2.00pm. Why dont you bring them along, maybe get them racing we do have a heat for the young'ens on the touring car track, most of them use mardaves or old tc's.

If your looking at getting a new used buggy, i would go for a 2nd hand b4, you can pick them up real cheap on here, if your looking at the losi xxx's dont go for the bks as the geometry is wrong for the uk tracks, so look at the xxx cr but its quite hard to find a cheap one. We all run the b4's apart from one X6, but hes one of the top drivers. I started off with a b4 and drove around the col-de-sac with it and it was fine for bashing, since your starting off i would look at buying second hand stuff off here like esc's, motors, radios.

OK, I'll see if I can make it over on the 14th.

I take it you don't rate the ansmann 2wd buggies? I've seen a couple of old Shumacher 2wd's on the bay - fireblade 2000 IIRC, what about that?

Will keep my eye out for a B4 too.

I dont rate the annsmann buggies because i have never used and even seen one. I've only seen the newer stuff since Im only 15, although i have seen an old Schumacher CAT go round before, but i wouldnt rate the driver very high LOL.

Also if you go for a b4 you will have track side spares cause every one has some and will probably let you borrow the parts if you break some.
