Backyard bashing- Micro

After finally moving into my new house I suddenly realised that I've got a decent sized grassed back yard with some potential for a micro track.

I've never owned or run a micro before, I've only ever had 1/8th and 1/10th off road buggies. But I can't help but think that with some home made wooden jumps and a couple of wooden sloping walls for wall rides (berms) that I could have a decent micro track in the back yard.

I'm thinking of getting the Associated 18th Factory team truck but just wanted to double check that these micros run good on (short) grass. I know you guys generally run indoors with them on carpet so how would a micro run on the grass. I intend to get myself a decent motor/speedo combination so it won't be a stock build.


P.S. I'm trying to track down the LRP Quantum 2 micro for it, Can't seem to find one over here? are they available in the UK yet?

Personally, I would go for the FTX Blaze, or go one better and get a LRP Shark Factory Team Truck/Duratrax Vendetta.

These are basically 8th scale buggies, scaled down. The Assoc is 10th scale, scaled down, so tend to be a bit light, and twitchy to be honest. The Blaze/Shark with a few choice upgrades is virtually unbreakable, and very easy to drive.

I was looking at the FTX Blaze. I assume the artr kit is the best they do or is their a full on factory kit?

Never been a fan of RTR or ARTR. Prefer to build a kit up to my own spec.

Not sure about a FK version... But one "must-do" is swap out the gear diffs for ball diffs... I guarantee lots of tears if you don't... especially on grass! 'n if you wanna run anything other than stock motor/cells it's the only way to go... Have fun geezer...

Ok, So I'm gonna take your advice and go for the Blaze. I'm guessing the ARTR version which is about 70 quid or so?

Any chance someone could put me together a little list of kit. The micro scene is all new to me so trying to make sure I get the right stuff from the off set is a bit tricky.

Basically, I've got my tranny and micro reciever already and my trusty 'overloader 2' charger (i assume that will charge micro cells??)

But I need everything else:

Blaze ARTR kit

what hop up parts should IU immediately buy for it, I'd rather get the hops ups straight away.

After a forward only speedo,
Good quality servo
Good spec motor that will be able to cope with short grass
Couple of battery packs


I'd really appreciate some advice so I can build up a decent buggy from the off. Seems to be so many options now, I'm lost with it all.

Best off going for the full factory (and wider) LRP Sharp version. You can get it at a few UK model shops, DMS, EMS Racing and Microtech all sell it. I think MK Racing might sell it too.

This comes with bigger volume shocks, wider, PBS Front end, and the important Ball Diffs.
