Default X6 wing placement

Do you need to run all wing as far forward as possible. Not just the standard wing if i am going to use a j concepts wing which is not as deep for example?
Thanks Andy

It depends on how much rear down force you want. The farther back the more rear down force.

I always run my X6 wing in the most forward position. If I use a Jconcepts wing I cut the front edge back by about 10-15mm and move it forward till it almost touches the tower.

In very low grip then I might try running the wing further back, but otherwise it's always forward.

Many of us are using the small JC wing - Hupo used this large wing to get more high speed steering on indoor carpet tracks...

Well he should ditch the stupid looking front wing and just change his front tyres to yellow mini spikes. After all staggered ribs are awful indoors...

We have tried the mini spikes ... undriveable ... way to aggressive ... at least on "Austrian" carpet ...

... and afaik Hupo istn't driving x-6 anymore ... the picture is at least 16 month old ...

I concur

Super Dan is the only other person I have seen run a super size wing, and that was to make it fly in a comedy style moment at EPO a few years ago.

I have seen a few people run a lexan sheet up from the front bulkhead to the top of the front tower, that is about as extreme as I would go before thinking that more tyre was needed on the front. Or maybe less on the back (4wd front pins on the back maybe?)

I run a pretty massive front wing, attached to the front shock tower. I compensate for this by running a full rear wing too. It feels mega planted at high speed, i love it

Then again, i run my X6 right on the 2wd weight limit

you really don't wanna see pics of my shed....

to sum it up, i run trakpower 3200 20c (178grams i think), with no weight anywhere else in the car. The balance feels excellent

I run Losi wing mounts, and a hot Bodies rear wing with full gurney

I took that Losi XXX rear wing kit (that comes with a front wing, and a secondary bit of lexan for the rear wing). The second bit of lexan, i just attach to the front shock tower. it's at about a 45 degree angle, and pushes the front down at high speed loads.

My X6 is the all white one at the nationals, the really mingin looking one, lol!

Stans flaps 'shudders'

So the same wing as Hupo has on the front of his in that pic?

STAN: Are you running a X-6 or X-6 Squared?

original X6 mate, got loads of spares for it still, lol!

I think it's the same bit of lexan yeah, but i secure it behind the shock tower (just make a couple of holes through it, and clamp it to the shock tower using the shock screws)

i don't go for all this adding weight crap, never have.

This is not from the Engineering Dept at X Factotry, but is my personal view: It is virtually impossible to have too much aero. Downforce = traction, and you can't possibly have too much traction because traction = speed.

Now it is possible to have more traction on one end of the car than the other, and that can cause problems (under- or over-steer) so balance is perhaps the most important part of the equation. However, I think when you've got too much traction at one end, the solution is to increase the other end, not decrease the first.

So, as we have arguments at the shop, they find me boringly on the side of more and more aero on both ends. F-1 cars would be winged wonders absent restrictive rules. As is, they have enough areo that, if you put a corkscrew in the road, you could drive them upside down. I want our cars that planted.

And don't give me the "rough track" argument. In Italy in '05, with the roughest track at worlds for a long time, front wings sprouted all over and rear wings all had full gurney. On a rough track, more aero = stability = speed. On a smooth track, more aero = traction = speed.

Now back to your regularly scheduled progrmming...

My setup is pretty much the same as Ellis' Osfest one (that starting setup everyone uses), except for using red rear springs, and no roll bar (my car is lighter and doesn't body-roll as much as a consequence, plus the red rear springs help with this). Oh, and the big ass wings (the rear with full gurney is in the high position on the shock tower)

I want as much downforce as possible, it improves every aspect of the handling of any car. Adding weight to the car only makes it feel more sluggish (and is just a way of trying to gloss over a poorly setup car in the first place), and less responsive.

yeah, as Chazz has said in the previous post

Thats different though millzy, if the car is creating downforce and being pushed into the ground then it cant flip. If the car slows down then the grip goes with it so it cant flip. I hope you can visualise it.

When i ran the original car indoor with 3200 lipo i liked the no weight route the car felt good round worksop.

The squared is balanced differently though so it does need weight, but i put all mine under the speedo and the car felt very good when i ran it for the first time the other week at the regional. I am going to play a bit more with it and try a losi front wing somehow to see if i can try and get it a bit more planted and lose weight at the same time
