Default Which Motor's best

I've got a xx4 that I'm picking up it's got a 19 turn motor and I wanted to know what motors you could recommend. Mainly going to be racing outdoor at Cov & Stotfold. It's been suggested 12 turn Peak Vantage would be a good start. Any ideas ??

Ah, you wouldn't be Allan's brother by any chance?

Welcome to racing and to the forum, lot's of friendly advice here!

vantages are good motors as they are fairly low maintenance. if you can, get a spashett edition as these really fly.
alternatively the checkpoints are awesome. again pretty low maintenance compared to normal brushed motors and they have loads of grunt.

i purchased a second hand checkpoint on ebay for £35 from a national driver. he had only used it for 2 meetings and it was imaculate. also goes like the clappers!

Will hopefully see you at some reagionals with Allan in the summer.

Yes I am, he got me back into racing after a 17 year break and now I can't keep away. Thanks for the welcome and advice, I'll keep my eyes open for those motors. I think this forum is great for advice i've been reading for a while now. A bit more practice and try to attend the regionals.

Your reactions are not as quick as they used to be Allan. You'd best make sure you keep practicing my sights are set high. Can I still have a lift home Sunday if I beat you ??

I bet you get a lot of visitors when it rains Jim !!

Corraly black edition 19t spec slightly exspensive at 30 odd quid but insane for a 19t i think it is faster than my 14. I have run this inmy xx4and my b4 and it goes well in both. As for wear i have mine in the b4 most the time and it was last skimmed and rebrushed in november the comm is stil very very very shinny.

The 19t in the car is fairly old and not very fast, It was put in their to get him started without it being to quick, he now needs something faster so the trackside shops can sell him lots of losi spares.

They tend to run quite hot and need more looking after than the v2 and checkpoint motors. I have a 12t v2 motor normal one and a spashett v2 if you can convince allan to come to watford, would do a very fair price...

do you need any shells doing?

personally i have never got on with them too well, but skimmed regularly and geared well etc they are as quick as everything else. but you will need lots of brushes and skim skim skim!

the vantage will go 4-5 meetings on a set of enduros with one skim per meeting. the reedy will probably want a set of brushes per meeting and a skim every 2-3 runs.

Looks like i better get Allan to go to Watford then. i'd rather have a couple of motors that require a bit less maintenance it seems the v2's are coming up tops. I'd like to get another shell for it so it's likely I'll need one doing !!

Painting a 501x shell at the moment. Not for me though!!

If you want a b4 shell doing grab a j concepts scoopless nicer to paint.

My checkpoint is good for a spare can if you want it!!

the spahett has a slightly different armature which helps it rev slightly higher.
the checkpoint are easier to maintain ans solder that V2's. the brushes come out from the outside of the tubes, where the V2 you have to dismantle the motor and take the brushes out through the inside.

the V2 are tricky to solder to as you have to solder to the brush hood. checkpoints have a normal solder tab.

i must admit i'd only use checkpoints from now on in brushed, but if you can get a cheap spashett then it is just as good, if a bit more fiddly!

I'm just convincing Allan he going to Watford I think the Spashett and V2 would be a really good starting place. I'll find out if he's coming and then can talk money.

Just the esc to do a little bit more research on now, any advice?

Sorry about all the questions but it's the accountant coming out in me !!

don't worry, i'm an accountant too (we may be the only people reading this thread soon!)

I have always used MRT speedo's. Uk made with excellent back up service. waterproof and bullet proof. never had an issue with them.

LRP do give lifetime warranty which is good, but not if you need to send the thing back 3 times per year leaving you with no speedo! and they are definitley NOT waterproof!

i may have a spare MRT available for about £40, i'll get back to you on that one.
