Hi Chris

TBH it is difficult for me to recommend equipment when there is so much variety out there.

What I would suggest is trying to come down on Sunday as there is a meeting at EPR. There will be loads of people to chat to and offer advice and no doubt there will be some good quality second hand stuff available that may prove to be a better investment that cheaper, new parts....

Travelwise, I assume that you are referring to public transport from your post?
By car it would be around half an hour but I dont think that you would be able to get to Eden Park station easily. Also, buses would require you to go into Orpington and then out again.

Let me know if you need any more help or info...

im hopeing to practice over the summer holiday and race during the winter rounds. i was planning on buying my equiptment second hand anyway because im on a tight budget at the moment.

what classes are best suited motor wise for begginers?

and how many batterys will i need for a day of driving?

im looking forward to coming down but right now, i have my GCSE's so i dont think ill have time, but over the summer holidays, ill priorities my RC

I've just started racing down there. I'm not aware of any stock classes so you're probably best to get a modified brushless motor and speedo (brushless system). Others may know better but a 6.5 or 5.5 would be about right for 4wd I reckon

And to answer your other question you can probably get away with one decent lipo battery for a days racing if there are enough heats, but 2 is probably best so you can use one in the pits if you need to while the other one's charging

A 5.5 or 6.5 is probably too much for someone starting out to be honest. If you have previous experience thats a bit different but if it will be your first time ever you may prefer a 10.5 to start with and upgrade when the thumbs start to work.

As with most clubs, drivers are always changing and upgrading their equipment and especially these days as drivers change from Brushed/NiMH technology to Brushless/Lipo.

At present we are aware of several drivers that have good quality equipment for sale at very reasonable prices: brushed motors in a wide selection of winds from 9 turn to 19, competition specification ESC's, chargers, dischargers, transmitters and radio equipment, the list goes on!

We even have some cells that have been very generously donated by one of our very experienced drivers/Dads that are available for a small donation to the club!

As Matt has said, probably best to come along and have a look and a chat before you start to invest so that you get the best value for your money and that you get what you need for our classes of racing.

If you want more details of what's available just drop me a PM.

Hope to see you soon!
