Most speed controllers have a built-in Lipo shutoff which shuts off the speed control if the Lipo battery voltage becomes too low. This prevents the speed control from damaging the battery. I highly recommend the Tekin RS Pro speed controller. I have been running mine for 6 weeks now, and the shutoff has saved many of my batteries, the overall racing performance is unbeatable as well.

Brushed or brushless speedo mate?
Most (if not all) brushless have low voltage protection but as for brushed as far as I know they are pretty rare. If you're running brushed and are happy with your current speedo get a low voltage cut off, all the good model shops stock them (but make sure you get one for a2S LiPo).

Not all brushless speedos do, the older Novak systems didn't AFAIK, not sure about others, the Losi system has Lipo cut off.

Running the Tekin RS in 10th and 8th electric, you can select default lipo cutoff due to how many cells (7.4,11.1 or 14.8v etc) or you can set custom voltages too
