Hi guys, Any of you lot using a 7700kv in your losi yet?
Had a practice today for this weekend coming but as things were running fine, disaster struck. My diff had only melted in the gearbox and caused the losi to completely stop moveing forward. any of you lot had this happen with a high powerd brushless yet? ![]() ![]() ![]()

I did turned out i wasnt seating my bearings correctly inside the diff causing the diff gear to melt its also best to buy a new set of carbide balls and diff rings.

Might off been too loose or too tight? As ash said, when rebuilding, best to do the lot to be safe (you can flip the diff rings though so you get 2 runs out of them so to speak)
I used to hate the losi diff gears, seemed to be made out of cheese.

I've recently got a CR diff to run in the back of my X5, I liked the idea of a tiny amount of slip to protect the diff on the copper washers but I can't tell really how to set it correctly anymore. Used to trap a wheel and spur and see whether the diff or slipper slipped but now you can't tell if its diff or rings slipping?

Mine was slipping after about 10 meetings, mainly running indoors. I rebuilt it, just cleaning, and it was fine afterwards. I'd say it was slipping and heated up.

Get a gear diff.
Part numbers are LOSA2930 for the diff and LOSA2919 for the tranny case which is essential for the gear diff to fit. |

i have just been looking into getting a new diff rebuild kit and i thought id have a look at upgrade so i just seen this post nd wondered if/ what the advantages are of having a gear diff?(been out of racing for 15+ years and it was all ball diffs back then)

Guess we will see more of those in the future. Today's motors are powerful enough and the batteries are as well so the possible extra weight wont be an issue. Probably somewhat welcome since the lipo invasion.
The only disadvantages with gear diff is are adjustment possibilities. One have to dissemble the whole thing to change oil. Turn the screw on a balldiff. Hand on the heart, who actually uses that function??? I just adjust it until it doesn't slip and then I leave it like that. The perks with gear diffs are obvious. No slippage what so ever. Less maintenance. Up here in the cold parts of Europe we race indoors a lot and on carpet. Solely on carpet so that takes a toll on the diffs. Next indoors seson I will run a gear diff in a B4 for sure. |
