Default Totally Noob Questions

Thinking of getting into 8th but literally never even looked into it before, so couple of quick questions:

Are they 2 channel? Eg do the mechanical brakes work off the same servo as the throttle?

If so, any reason not to use my 10th receiver?

How f***ed am I at most meetings if I don't have a pit bitch? In emergencies can I leave my tranny on the rostrum and refuel myself?

How reliable are most engines?

I am no Nitro expert, but I can shed some light on your questions

regular 2 channel radios are actually the rules, so whatever you use for 10th scale will be find for 8th scale, possibly even your servo.
it is just a steering servo as normal and a servo in place of your ESC to operate brakes AND throttle

10th scale reciever is perfectly fine

Everyone doing 8th scale would be more than willing to help you out, go to a meeting ask a few questions to people and I am sure you will find a PB to lend a hand, you might have to return the favour for them, but it all ends up working well. there are other people in the same situation as you are.

with regard to engines, if they are tuned right, they are reliable, its not an easy thing to learn, but there will be plenty of people at a meeting or a praccy day that would be willing to tune your engine to get it running good for you.

from what I have seen going to practise days and stuff, 8th scale racers are always more than happy to lend a hand

Thx for the info! Who are good engine brands here in the uk?

Oh, I assume by 2ch that's 2 used channels, eg I use futaba 2.4ghz which is a 3 channel receiver I think, it's just you only use 2 as in tenth yeah?

yes indeed, 3 or 4 channel radio's are fine, but as long as you only have 2 servos, battery and a PT plugged into your reciever your fine.

I am loving my LRP ZR .21X engine, good punch!

Yea, Its all been coverd.. If you struggle to have a pitch bitch. Ask, And im sure someone will pit for you if you do the same for them.. Servo's You need to Strong servo's... I currently use Savox Servo's There about £50 each.. but they are fantastic, really quick.. and have plently or Tourque. Trust me, get the best servo's you can afford... as you need plenty of Tourque.. Engines..-O.S. Is the way to go.. LRP-Not in my view.. seen to many people get a LRP and have issues. And specially if your not sponsored.. you end up wasting money on them. Something like a O.S., RB, Novarossi... Go for the top brands. Seen to many people have issue with LRP engines.. I would personally stick to Companies that have been in Nitro for a long time.. and that have had alot more exsperience with engines the LRP-Dont get me wrong, love LRP Electric stuff but some of there Nitro gear.. isnt that best.. but thats my personal view. I race Nitro so have a lil more inside knowledge than some on here..

I'm sure they're all good but blue is king, if I do try 8th it'll be with the new Tamiya, so that's blue anyway!

Cars - any car you can get good parts supply off and a decent amount of set-up help . I have a RC8, strong, agile and good parts and set-up support. Xray are built like tanks and never break! Same with the 'Moogen'.

Engines - like jamie said stick to the 'bigger' brands. Novarossi based engines are always really good engines (RB, Nova Rossi, Axe Rossi etc). OS engines....some say good but some say utter rubbish. Sirio, seem reliable and have a very nice crackily sound to them . If you're not totally confident in tuning whilst your learning get the Picco P3 engine (do not get the P3r they are *%$@ !). Great engine and for £75 (from what i saw last) you can't really go wrong

Reliability - if you clean the car frequently (that's everything) it will last ages. Engines, no need to take them apart (if it ain't broke don't fix it). Just replace the airfilter every so often with a NEW one. There's lots of ways to break in engines. As long as you get heat into it before you start it and run it rich (with temps around 200F) you'll be fine. Engines have been known to go 10gallons before losing compresion . They aren't to hard to tune and if you get stuck someone is always willing to help out.

Servos - Ace/AE, Futaba, Sanwa or Savox. Don't really want to skimp out on servo's as it will bite you in the arse later on lol

Fuel - Big brands for safety. OD's and Byron.

Pit people - Usually somebody always wants a hand or will be wiling to help put. I've posted a few messages on other forums and usually always got a response

Cheers for the help guys! Do most engines come with instructions for how to run in and setup etc? Also, do you need similar servo's for throttle/brake and steering, or different speed/torques?

Finally for buying fuel, can it be posted or do you need to find an lhs? (sorry if that's a dumb question!!)

No, not really sure of any that come with break in instructions.. if the do they Are pathetic ones.. like 12 tanks at Idle-Pure Rubbish. Have a look online, there are about 3-4 Diff break ins.. some say some better than other's. TBH Its personal prefrence ect.. Fuel It can be posted, but if you can get from a LHS its normally cheaper.. as you have to get it sent by Courier-Only way to send fuel/Aerosols ect..

Um, servo's Speed is best for Throttle break-But needs good torque too.. makes braking alot faster-Stronger.. But Im not 100% on the exact speed-Tourque to look above. But I use Savox servo's as stated before about £50 Each. Such a difference from my old Hi-Tec's.. Decent servo's are a MUST! They will be faster-stronger.. and last longer, And setup the EPA properly too.. hope this helps.
PM Me, if you need any help!

Thanks for the help!

I've got an SC1256 for steering so all good!

Random question, what tires do people use on most tracks? Or are most series using control tires anyway?
