in for a penny!!

Benifits

low internal resistance, so holds a high voltage under load giving good punch
no "special packs"
no need for discharging/ cycling
does not fade over cycles
safley charged over 10 amps
simply race cool charge
lighter
higher capacity
as safe as anything else we have PROVIDED guidlines followed (which is same for all our power spources)
long term cost down Ј78 for a pack, two packs which will do a year

Disadvantages

should not be discharged below 6 volts (voltage cut of or speedo available to combat this)
reguires lipo compatable charger
benifits from using a balancer but not a nesecity
not sanctioned for full BRCA meetings
as danjerous as what we have if missused

I know carl, I'm just messing with you cos I LOVE YOU

Advantage is ability to use it multiple times in an evenings club racing, speed/power, duration.
Also found it nicer in the worst weather - my normal cells would have been a mess, but this was wipe-clean.

Disadvantage to me is it wont fit in all 4wd cars - so it shouldn't be legal until other configurations are available.

John, go on 2wdrc.com, a chap has fitted one of the saddle packs in his X5. Not the way I would do it but it can be done.

In time I hope to get a saddle version and run it right at the very back of the chassis on both sides using the 2 cell side and last 2 cells on the 4 side, plus the spare space at the back. Them move the transponder and receiver forward and add weight to balance. This is way in the future though!

Rich it's not so much of a problem, they can actually fit all down one side or as I mention above as a 3 by 3 saddle pack right at the back of the chassis on both sides. electrics and weight will need to be repositioned accordingly but it can be done!

Sorry John I meant 4wdrc.com, I don't think the way he has done it is the best way but good on him all the same!

Max Amps do a saddle LiPo pack - have seen it on their web site.

LiPo is an interesting one. I have tried it, and didn't notice any difference in performance to my IB SHV's.

I think that all Mark says is correct at the minute. However, i genuinely believe that if they got used widespread for racing - you would see things change. Who remembers that we were told NiMh cells didn't need discharging

I think if the major players got into the competition aspect, the pace of developement would be massive, no one would be able to keep up. Look at any new technology/application and it always goes this way - think Brushless motors/speedos now. Much greater rate of change when compared to conventional brushed.

Not convinced this would be good for the racers.
