Default TC3 one way diff, or not?

Hi Guys,
Just had a customer on, he bought a AS1728 NTC3 one way diff from us for his TC3.

Apparently the diff is too wide, it won't fit - driveshafts too long. I have spoken to CML and this is the only diff that they do now, and that it should fit.

There is the AS3978 one way diff, listed for the TC3 specific, but it is discontinued.

Just wondering, has this customer got the wrong diff. Im trying to help him but so far all I can see is he has the right diff and I can't figure out why it isn't fitting his car.

Thanks
Chris

I was always under the impression they were a direct fit.

Me too, and CML confirmed that. But id like to help the customer and find out for sure, and if there is anything he can do, or buy, to make it fit.

I got a sneaky feeling 1728 is for NTC3 and B44, but not TC3, and that 3978 for the TC3 has been discontinued - and with the TC3 being old the newer 1728 everyone has just presumed it'll fit.... But I dunno... id rather give the customer some info I am not making presumptions about...

Cheers Chris, pretty much what I thought too and what I said. I explained that the tag on the packet states NTC3 simply because this car was made before the others, and the others use the same part so to reduce number of different parts AE have to manufacture..... which simplifies things somewhat.

So how come the diff doesn't fit his car??? bizarre.

Hey,

This is the TC3 one way:

This is the NTC3 one way

Both have the same body, which has the one-way bearing, where the gear attach to.

But the out-drives are different. The Ntc3 / B44 one way has a longer out-drives.

MiCk B. :-)

Agreed, the NTC3 1 way diff outdrives are longer.

People might have the TC3 outdrives hanging about if they bought a TC3 1 way and had to get the NTC3 outdrives to make it work in their buggy.

LOL, just found all this out too and got back to the customer.

With the TC3 diff discontinued, what to do is buy the 1728 and then the TC3 outdrives which is an expensive way round it.

As an alternative there is a Yokomo one way diff designed for the TC3 and is still available, its Part no. SP3938-6. So the customer is returning the 1728 and we're ordering the Yoke version for him.

Soooo, concluded!! cheers guys

Cheers Millz, well I have got to try for all customers, if we can't provide a service then the customers don't come back and thats very important.

I managed to end the sale with a happy customer, rather than the genuinely frustrated one that he was when he first called me. The thing is now, he may recommend us to his mates etc.
