Im pretty sure there are no rules for tyres, there is usually a specialist tyre for the track though

Last year I ran a B4 with yellow schumacher minispikes at all astro tracks (bury and batley) in all conditions and green sch minispikes on wet grass. Only made F4 though...

no rules!

Some of the crazy american tyres work quite well on the grass tracks, but are heavy compared to the schumachers so its like driving in toffee

Can't go wrong with schumacher yellow mini spikes in the dry - in the wet, it depends how wet it is! all sorts of crazy tyres come out then.

Jimmy's right any tyres that are/were commercially available can be used.

Someone TQ'd and won Teeside regional with some comedy old school full spikes, which at the start of the day everyone was literally pointing and laughin at. Wonder who that was

Personal opionion is i've got loads of old tyres I like to use up at regional meets, I would be annoyed if I could no longer use these as with nats and stuff I do so little club racing outdoors I might as well throw them away. Therefore it would not be cheaper for me or many other drivers that do the same.

For example I've loads of TR32's I bought as it was previously a control tyre at nationals and you had to have them incase it rained. They are no longer on the nats list so I'll use them as and when at regionals. If they are not on the list for regionals then I've upwards of £50 wasted in a box. Same with BB pins I can use at Bury at the moment next years regional.

Interesting that we have debated on here the merits of Lipo's & Brushless, both available to all, and more recently the new Sintered rotors, yet we are allowed to run tyres at our outdoor regionals that I believe are NOT commercially available any more !

How many times have we seen people struggle in the Rain as they don't have / cannot get hold of TR32's and such like, whilst other drivers run rings around them ?

Just a point, but worth making I think ?
Who makes all these Barmy rules anyway ?

I'd rather fancy that Graham !
As I don't race as often as most, i'm sure my opinions will be less valid, all the same I like to air my gripes !

When and where is the meeting ?

Andy.

I do not think this would be in any way fair on longer term racers to bring this in as an instant rule.

Thinking about it, would it be better to propose it for the following year, so I could 'use up' my tyres this year, possibly even sell the ones I don't think I will use this year even if it rains everywhere?

I also believe people often think things aren't available anymore when sometimes they are. E.G. I believe certainly some full spikes are still a available, and I got my TR32's by ringing round shops until I found some. People these days if they don't see it on an internet page don't seem to bother, just an observation.

All that said, leave it as it is get's my vote.

Dan, you mad bugger.

If I race against you at this years regionals, I'll run my Sintered brushless homebrew, powered by Lipos and you can run your non-comercially available tyres, deal or no deal ?

PS. Decent wet weather tyres are NOT largley available, if at all. If you know anywhere I can get a few sets of TR32's let me know, as i've tried with no success, the ones I do have I was lucky enough to pick up 2nd hand in a job lot.

People guard them like Gold, I recall one particular driver buying up all the stock he was lucky enough to get hold of and then publicly bragging and teasing other drivers who were struggling in the rain, not very sporting and not my idea of fair ?

You could always drop a few sets of TR32's at my house if you've got too many !

Andy.

LOL, it's funny how we seem to 'argue' a lot over the internet.

Would the TR32 bragger race a largely orange car?

By the way I have a full set for 4wd (those block heads fronts which work OK) and 2wd, as well as a set of rear softs. I won't be selling these, they can go on my RC10 as retro if it ends up I can't run them.

To be honest as well where are we racing outdoors this year, Batley and Bury TR32's are toss due to the multisurface so it's just York and NECR. I'm more worried about rediculous interference at York than I am about wet weather tyres that's for sure

The theory of a control tyre has been gone over lots of times before, when talking about regionals the two main points are,

A - Who is going to enforce any rule, scrutaineering is often a bit patchy as it stands, it may seem good in theory but is impossible in reality.

B - Regionals are a 'halfway-house' between club racing and nationals, both in terms of point A above and general realxedness (not a proper word I know). A control tyre rule is a step too far.

Anyone who want's to put this before the committee must be prepared to become 'Committee Member For Enforcing the Tyre Rule' as I can guarantee no one else will want to do it.

Stu.

You are of course completley right. I just find the double standards in terms of what people can and can't run laughable at times and enjoy making a point. I really think some of the people who post on here and elsewhere are 'priviledged' in different ways and should think before making some comments, after all this is a 'hobby' which is by and large how I approach it.

Dan that isn't you by the way ! By and large I find your posts usefull and informative, honest. It does seem like we disagree on quite a few things though ! Maybe next time I see you we should have an argument proper ?

PS. I do seem to recall orange on 'said' car ! But I coudn't possibly comment further !

And lastly, if it rains this year, i'll be screwed as my only set of TR32's are glued onto Losi rims and i'm running my Pred, so roll on sunshine.

Andy.
