Default Adding weight for stick lipos

I've almost completed the changeover for stick lipos in my car but I'm wondering how much weight I should be adding to the lipo side. In my touring car I've put about 150g on the lipo side to that the chassis balances and seeing as I'm using pretty much identical electronics in the pred I'm thinking I should be addding the same to that.

Just wondering how much you are adding to your preds?

I've got no weight added and i'm not far off balancing. From memory it's about 15-20g lighter on the lipo side. Although my lipo is 290g which is on the heavy side. I think the reason that you need more to balance you TC is on most cars the belt runs down one side of the car pushing the electrics out and moving the battery in.

My electrics weigh almost exactly the same as the trakpower 4900. I run the lipo as far forward a possible and use 2 x 5g to seperate the lipo from the prop and 1 to keep the speedo away on the other side. I run 20g under the front shocks generally (but tune this depending on the track). Total weight comes out at about 1615g.

I posted a pic of my layout in the other thread which has the speedo up front and the servo layed down. I did this as it spreads the heavier items out on the electrics side and moves the weight slightly more forward.

I've played with ballast a fair amount but found this the best distribution so far.

Hope that helps, if you want any pictures let me know.

I've got my electronics laid out in the only way they'll fit so I've not got much of an option with them (I need a smaller speedo) and the lipo is being held in with one of timmys CF trays. I'll get everything on the scales and see how it looks before I stick them all down but it doesn't sound like i'll have to add much weight at all.

Cheers guys.

I'm not sure what speedo you run but the Tekin does help with getting a nice layout as its so small. To make more room i mounted the servo close to the motor which now means i have to take the whole motor mount out, but to be honest, how often do you need to get it out anyway (and its only 3 screws). Just thought i'd mention that incase it helps with your space.

Thanks Kev an RS pro is on the shopping list but funds are quite restricted at the moment so the GTB will have to stay for now.

I will also have to remove the mount to take out the motor but I haven't felt the need to change my 6.5, I've still got enough room to change the pinion if required so it's not a great issue.

I'll get some photos up later tonight when it's all back together.

at the moment I run 40g under the front shocks with a TP4900 lipo as far forward as possible on the right hand side. It handles great and weighs in at around 1650. I use an LRP sphere, futaba servo, KO receiver and x12 motor
Layout can be found here

I've finished the car off tonight I've added 15g under each shock at the front and none anywhere else, I weighed the reciever speedo and motor and they came to around 260g which is about the same as the lipo if not a bit less.

The carbon fibre bits are all from timmy and look great cheers mate.

Hopefully I'll be giving it a run at sunday at coventry.

The car handled great, unfortunately I didn't have much track time due to an awkward landing.

At least I've got a template for drilling the holes now

I blipped the throttle whilst in the air over a double jump, came down hard on the back end. It's not the first snapped pred chassis I've seen but it's the first one I've seen snap at the back.

Try replacing it with the plastic chassis. Its had some mods to stop breakages. As well as being a little less stiff.

It was only the 2nd lap of round two, never mind a new plastic chassis, slipper clutch coupling, motor mount brace and hinge pins have been ordered.

I'm at worksop on sunday so fingers crossed it all arrives in time for me to glue the battery fillers in and get everything changed over.

I remember "back in the day" that Rich Savage broke a chassis in very similar fashion every run at Tivvy with his P8! I never managed to do it to mine though, thankfully.

The Cov track is a car killer though, I normally take a new car there to work out what spares I need to carry as if it doesn't break there you won't need those bits!!!!

Back in the day I've done both.
Did you leave the screw out that fastens the ali post to the motor mount?
