...ignoring the facts a couple of office boys have managed to find a custom made bluetooth receiver/ESC for a Kyosho Mini-Z from somewhere and the bluetooth Mclaren would be out of signal range by the time he'd driven it out of the garage.

It's still well done for the uninformed.

Sony ericsson did bring out a small bluetooth rc car a couple of years ago

Nope, it's possible to do it. There's some python software in the Nokia beta labs that uses the accelerometer hooked up to a bluetooth receiver.

It's on sourceforge as well afaik, google for "shakerracer"
