Default Work Playlist

We've just been talking about radio stations at work. Most of my colleagues listen to Galaxy or Metro - main stream pop. I'm trying to introduce them to music akin to what's played on Virgin, and will be putting a CD together to take to the office after the weekend, as the virgin reception is poor. The question is what tracks do I put on. what are the best songs to represent this station / genre. Music that people might recognise, but isnt usually played on the "pop" stations at the moment.
Ive come up with a few Id like to stick on:
Feeder Just a day
OCS Day we caught the train
Shed 7 Disco down
Amy Winehouse Tears dry on their own
Oasis (Dont look back in anger? or something maybe a bit more obscure? That new Prodigy mix of falling down sounds good).
Corner house Brimful of Asha
Ash Girl from Mars or Oh Yeah.
Stereophonics Thousand Trees
Snow Patrol Spitting Games

What do the Ooplers think of these suggestions? What songs would you suggest?
Try to keep the songs upbeat, they're supposed to motivate us at work.

First of all Chris, it's called Absolute radio now! Which has confused (and cost) 1/3rd of the listeners according to the recent Rajar.

Second - your playlist is student-disco-tastic! Considering I was a student in the mid-90s it's hardly the most contemporary selection of tracks.

Thirdly, hasn't "indie" gone mainstream now? Don't they play stuff like Kings of Leon and Lily Allen on Metro anyway?

Are you trying to get Virgin/Absolute on medium wave? Try taking a DAB to work or even try streaming it from the internet. Probably easier than cutting together a mixtape.

Im not signing off any Capital Expenditure on a DAB for the office Dave!
Indie hasnt gone mainstream, former indie bands have gone mainstream, Kings are an example of this. The point Im trying to make at work is that there's very good music that has been around and isnt played. Student - Disco - Tastic being the genre Im trying to push.

More contemporary tracks are welcome, though to be honest, Im struggling with contemporary stuff. The newest stuff to spring to mind Ive liked has been Maximo Park??

Am I getting old?

The mixtape idea is something everyone at work is going to do for different days, I just want to make sure mine is a hit.

Yes. And I'm afraid you will only get older from now on!

When I used to make myself tapes/minidiscs for the car I just made it up as I went along, depending on how I felt and what songs I remembered. I had a summer tape in my car for ages that started off with the Isley Brothers "Summer Breeze" and went from there. Listened to that for years.
