Front wheel width

Is it common to use a wide front wheel on the B4? I have bought my car 2nd hand, and it didnt come with a manual, I just got these new wheels and they are a wide front? will these be good?

Wide wheels are what most people run there wide because its an american car and american tyres are wide but we strech our old skool narow tyres over the wide wheels you can get narrow wheels if you want.

I didnt realise the wheels were wide until i got my first set of tires. I dont know if this was correct, as I didnt know at the time, but I just cut the inner bead off and glued the tires as normal They worked fine.

The tyres being stretched over the wider rim makes the car more controlable and consistant. I've found the car to be overly snatchy and hard to drive on narrower rims.

If you want your B4 to go, never use narrow wheels.

Do you mean wide as in the same width as the rears? I bought a spare set of wheels and tyres when I got the buggy but the fronts are narrow, does everyone buy two sets of rear wheels?

Hi scouse,
No I dont mean wide as the rear tyres mate, they just come in a packet with wide wrot on them, they are just slightly wider than the 'natural' fit of the say... urm.... schumacher 2wd front buggy tyres..... the wide tyres make the said tyre stretch a bit, so i imagine it stiffens up the side wall a bit, so this must make a difference in the handling dept.

Rears approx 35mm outside of rims, wide fronts approx 25mm and narrow wheels approx 19mm.

I have seen narrow front tires (say staggered ribs) fitted to wide front wheels but only using two thirds of the width, inside flange/rim unused, but no need to cut off.

Stiffens but also flattens the tread when schumacher spikes or pins are streatched over wide front wheels. Soon find you have a box of wheels all with different part worn tires, different compounds and types.

hh gotcha'. I will get myself some wider ones than the set I picked up the other day, glad I was too lazy to glue them up already!! (God I hate tyre glueing!).

Are the ribbed front tyres any good for grass / Dirt UK tracks ????
I bought a load of old tyres and stuff and i got loads of ribbed fronts ?????

Normal UK tyres will be mini spike front almost everywhere outdoors. Possibly ribs at Tivvy and CML maybe, but no where else. I've got a freaking massive carrier bag of ribs with all kind of thing I assembled for the Euros on clay last year. Bet I never use any of them ever again.

Will he be better off running Ribbed or mini pin Fronts Sunday as these are my only 2 options ?????????

Will he just get understear with the ribbed or will it be well bad??????

I find a narrower front gives more bite on turn in, but less through the actual corner.
A wide is opposite, less initial bite into the corner, but more through the rest of the turn.
Personally I like the narrower wheel when using a green mini spike in the wet, and the wider rim everywhere else.
