zx5 - ready for more power, but what motor?

I have a ZX5 rtr version, but I've upgraded all of the drivetrain parts over the last few weeks - ceramic diff balls, steel outdrives etc. Now very bored with the pace of the stock G20 motor. Thinking about Mamba max power, but seriously, what is the sane choice? I want to be as fast or faster than my mates gas car (kyosho Inferno) around an 1/8 track, but would also like some sort of driveability retained... I mostly bash, but want to get into some racing down the track.

becoming a common question, welcome to oOple, if you are going to race at a local track, pay them a visit and see what they are using to get round without crashing, tyres, shock oils, settings etc make a world of difference.

something around a 6.5 brushless would be a good starting point. Plenty fast enough but should still retain easy drivability (provided the car is set up as JCJC said).
Not sure the car will be as fast as your friends Nitro (depending on his engine etc), but it will accelerate much quicker meaning you should be able to lap the track in a similar time to him.

But as JCJC says which is great advice, if you plan to race at a local club, go and visit them and talk to the regulars first before you rush out and buy stuff.
I would personally give the mamba systems a miss as they aren't sensored. This means they can stutter a bit under acceleration. Try and go for a sensored system if you can, usually plenty of second hand ones on here.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've pretty much well sorted everything else on the buggy, shocks, tyres, suspension mounts, hub carriers (10deg), turnbuckles, etc, so I've left the motor till last. I'm more than happy with the way the buggy tracks, it's a great handling, albiet slow buggy now!! I keep hearing people say steer clear of the mamba systems, so I'm assuming majority rules here...
