Default Question about Novak GTB & LiPo cut-off

I bought a 2nd hand GTB a year ago, no idea how old it is. Thought I read somewhere that the early GTB's didn't have the LiPo voltage cut off feature?

How do I tell if my speedo has this feature? Don't fancy killing my new battery

Do you still have the box and is the ESC in good condition, are the stickers still on it?

On the box and on the side of the ESC you will see "Spread Spectrum Optimized" sticker. Can't miss it, cover the entire side of the ESC.

You could also check through the set up: -

LiPo Safety Cut off.: -

During Profile customisation, press and hold the one touch set up button until the red and yellow LEDs turn on Simultaneously. One blink signifies saftey cut off function is off. Two blinks, and it's on.

When you turn the ESC on, Red and Yellow LED's blink 3 times to show that it's activated.

No box & no stickers on the ESC

I'll give the profile customisation a try - thank you for your help.

Hi,

The GTB instructions are on the Novak website:
http://www.teamnovak.com/download/in...ons/index.html

In adding the lipo cut-off they added a new LED colour combination to the setup selection sequence. If you can get the Red and Amber LED's to come on together then you have the later li-po cut-off version. If not, you don't. If the LED's flash 3 times when you turn it on, li-po cut-off is enabled.

Regards,
Jon.

As above check your menu to see if the setup option is there. It's not just the spread spektrum version that has the cutoff so don't necesarily worry about that.

I reckon it won't as mine doesn't.

You'll have the LIPO option in your setup section...if it isn't there then you don't have it.

Don't stress though - I use it with a 4900 lipo and 5.5 brushless and I just stop after 7 minutes to be safe, and it's fine.

I have just bought a 2nd hand GTB and Novak 5.5. Is there any way to know if the the rotor is a sintered? "Compression" (cogging) feels rather soft when turned manually, compared to my usual Orions.

Sorry for the highjacking

Sounds like you have a bonded rotor. Aside from taking the motor apart, it can be hard to tell. There are instructions on the novak website on how to take them apart. Quite easy really.

But once you have opened the motor, how do you know what kind of rotor it is?

OK, I have the answer if anyone is interested
the bonded one is brown and looks as it has been bonded (crazy, I know); the sintered one is shiny silver.

My ESC has a Red & Amber LED combination, which I can make blink once or twice - Lipo on /off, right?

Bad news is it doesn't flash the LED's three times when turned on to show that LIPO is enabled. Is this the same as yours Fiddybux?

If it turns out not to have a lipo cutoff you can always get one of the novak smartstop external cutoffs and use that to be on the safe side,

I was trying to sort out a couple of cooked ESC's today - long story short, I called Novak for confirmation on an old ESC I wanted to check.

For 100% confirmation on the type you have, look on the underside for the barcode sticker inside the unit. Underneath the barcode is a Alphanumberic number. Call Novak in California on

00 1 949 833-8873

Option 1 for customer service - Give them the number and they'll tell you which it is.
