Just to bring this topic back up i am wondering why ALL model shops don't take paypal. I only use paypal for buying stuff online and cannot understand why some shops don't take it. I know they have to pay commission but surely giving the customer an option to pay with paypal even with the commision added as an extra is better than losing a sale.
I use Mk 99% of the time for 2 simple reasons, live stock levels and paypal. I hear of shops struggling and complaining but making it harder for the customer to buy from them is daft.

Rant over

We for one dont accept it for two simple reasons. It is WAY too expensive compared to credit card transactions to process (nealry 4.5% more) and we for one work as hard as we can to get the best prices for our customers and stock high levels to match these prices, this would all go out the window if everything rose in accordance with the higher charge rates. Customers always want a shops best price (understandably) but this would not be possible (not for us) if the running costs were to be higher for us to operate.
Second reason, there are (I'm afraid to say) too many bogus and untrustworthy people who use Paypal (mainly on ebay) and we have already encountered several transactions (when we used to take it) were we "knew" customers had recieved their goods (they had phoned us with technical questions on "how" they now fit the parts to their cars) and yet several days later a Paypal dispute would arrive claiming they have not recieved them, swiftly followed by Paypal removing the funds from our account and returning them, to the buyer.
This is OK if we have sent high value goods out by a signed for delivery were we can prove otherwise, but 80% of what we (and I am sure most model shops send) is just normal first class "un-signed for" jiffy bags, which you cannot trace delivery of.
We were powerless to do anything and after this happened a few times we called it a day with Paypal, as they say the small terrible few ruin it for the majority of genuine users out there.
Just my two penneth......

But could you not have an option like i said for the customer to pay the 4.5% and the extra 70p for recorded delivery. Most of the stuff i order comes in a recorded delivery jiffy anyway.

It may be different for shops but as far as I know recorded delivery isn't enough, you don't just need pod, you need the signature scanned online too? Or did I dream it!?

Also believe your not allowed to pass on Paypal charges, in the UK anyway!?

Correction, the scanned signature is only needed for items over about £150
