I've been running my zx5 for nearly 3 years, tried a one-way about 5 times and always gone back to a diff in the front and one-way on the lay shaft.
But if you want to buy the bits, you'll have to get all new bits. The best idea would be to find a pdf manual of the Std ZX5 and use that to price it up. I don't think you can buy it as a package. HTH Brett |

Oneway diff has 2 oneway bearings with the outdrives (part 89) sitting in the bearing, we used this once (on original kit car), broke a front wishbone and lost the outdrive forcing a return to a standard diff. We always had a oneway on the shaft. (I think some of the parts came in the original kit, only needing to add extra bearings & outdrives, one of the attractions of the original kit, came with the diff & oneway options - in the box) |

I am going to add my vote to the one-way shaft rather than one-way diff .... just smooths the car out. Gains all the steering you could ever use without compromising the transition between on-off-on power in the way I alwasy feel a one-way diff does!
Works out much cheaper too. |

Hi Rog
Does the one way shaft come with the SP kit, or is it a separate part, if so, what is the part number as its not obvious from the manual Cheers Ted |

No oneway in the SP kit at all. I can't remember the part numbers off the top of my head (shocker but I've never bought the parts) but they can be easily found in the original ZX5 manual (a copy is up here on oople ...) ... SP manual doesn't cover it well but the part numbers are there in the option parts section at the back

I was looking at the original zx-5 manual too, page 17 step 21, but it almost looks like they describe the one-way and solid the wrong way round?
The front one-way specification doesn't use part 90 (LA224) which is the one way bearing, the manual says use part 59, but part 59 looks like a plastic part glued to a one way bearing?? Part 59 just comes as part of LA211 which is the drive joint set. I guess if i'm that bothered I'd order la211 and la224 and that should do it all, one way or another! Sorry for the questions, I have a std zx-5 but is 2nd hand and I dont think I got all the bits, hence I can't try it out myself |

The one-way diff set-up does use the same fixed plastic drive piece as when your running a diff .... all the one way action is in the diff assembly.
The one-way shaft does not use a plastic drive piece, rather it uses one of the one-way bearings and a diff outdrive for one-way. In step 21 of the original ZX5 manual it shows left hand box .... shaft one-way (for proper diff applications) right hand box .. fixed shaft for use with a randomizer (how I like to refer to a one-way diff assembly) hope that helps clear things up. |
