You bought the wrong one then! Everything that came with the RTR needs throwing away to make the car fast. If it's un-opened can you take it back and get a kit car?

You need to search on this forum for ready to run ZX-5 tips, a lot of the parts from the original kit were changed to plastic to keep costs down, but just for stupid fast, you will need to change the motor, as the numbers get lower the motor gets more grunt, we used a 10turn brushed then went to a 5.5 brushless, only slightly faster (5.5 = approx 9turn brushed). To fit a faster motor you will have to change the speed control (esc) to something that suits the motor, I believe the RTR is limited to 15turn, some of the brushless esc's are a tight fit under the body shell.
Once you start to go stupid fast you will break parts, more fun is to find a local club and go just fast enough round the track to enjoy yourself (you will still break parts), you will also find a friendly, helpful bunch of racers who will help and give you lots of advice, motors, esc's, tyres, shocks, batteries............... The Kyosho ZX5 is a very good place to start, will run well and will be competive. have fun Jimmy's review is well worth reading a few times, http://www.oople.com/rc/index-reviews.html |

If you get the car on a proper track you might suddenly decide to work on driving skill, before spending on speed ![]() I would say the RTR is a decent enough car for club level racing... have a go, then worry about hopping up. If your not interested in racing and just want to bash around the street then a hot brushless speedo/motor combo is the route to insane speed. |

I think the limit is 15turn
why not look at http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17331 Model Images posting, MRT pro esc's are no limit, motor wise, and 11x2 or 10x2 motors were £65+ new, you will need to have and be able to use a chunky soldering iron, possibly change your battery connectors, add power caps & diode and possibly look at gearing. MRT instructions = http://www.team-mrt.com/pdf/vxpro.pdf the 7x2 would be bloody stupid fast, and strip the gears out of your diffs. Find a club that races buggy's localy, best advice. |

The kit motor is has 20 turns of a single wire per armature segment (normally refered to as a 20x1).
Motors with more than a single wire per pole will have a smoother power delivery and are often listed as a double (x2) or tripple (x3) etc. Motors with fewer turns, yours has 20, will rev higher thus go faster for the same gearing ..... but in reality you will need to change the gearing to suit the motor or else it will get to hot and fail. I think the limit for your speedo is actually 17 turns approx, although a lower current draw 15 turn may just be ok. I personally prefer a car to run a slower smoother motor and gear it higher to give the same top end. For example when most people were running winds like a 10x1 I would be running something like a 13x3 but geared so the top end was very similar. It is much easier to drive a smooth motor and for me me fun! |
