Default XXX-CR start up

Have just bought a good second-hand Losi XXX -CR to get back into some fun club racing next year after quite a few years away from off-road.
Just need a bit of help/guidance on:-

What are the common breakages that I'll need to carry some spares for?
Looking to run an Xcelorin 10.5 combo (as I have one lying around at the moment) - as I'll be running outdoors on grass with a few jumps, is this a good motor to be starting with?
If so what ratio should I be looking for to begin with?
Finally any good hints/tips on set up - ie I've noticed elsewhere in another thread that about 10g's of lead should be added to the front to improve stability.

Thanks in advance for all your help and advice.

Not too sure on the parts that break, but a 10.5 should be a good starter motor for 2wd, although if your on a big track, you might be a bit short of power. The ideal motor for 2wd is a 7.5 IMO, as I used a 6.5 and it was too fast for me!

the only things i ever break are front wish bones and the rear t-plate i also bought a carbon fibre frotn shock tower but its not essential. also you wont be able to run the xcelerin with the fan on as its to tall and wont allow the shell to fit properly most people jus tape it down standing up blowing air across the speedo instead of directly on top .

Que ashley cr lover........

Hello

Parts to stok on your cr are.... Front wishbones rear hubs: they wont break but the ball stud might depending on the possition of it. Rear T plate and maybe a rear pivot block and a diff gear. Only upgrade on my car is the carbon fibre front shock tower.

Ditto all those comments, I'm back this year with a CR after 15 or so years out. It's just about getting a good base set up and taking it from there.

I agree probably 7.5 good starter for outdoors. Only other thing, basic but simple if it's not done, just washers on the bottom of the rear shocks where they mount on the wishbones. The speedo, I run a LRP sphere with heatsink but no fan and that only just fits under the shell. I think the Losi speedo is about the same plan size but taller.

Overall though I have found the CR a really tough car and it's coped well with my decidedly untidy driving.

You'll find some handy base set ups to try on this site.

i dont really have a bad word to say about the cr it was my first car after 8 or so years away from the race track and it stood up to all the abuse i could throw at it the only reason i got an x6 was i just fancied a change .

Default losi cr.

its a wise choice of car with very little breakages. i usually break a steering block or 2, a wishbone at the most. a good investment would be to fit the trinity 3deg rear pivot block as it will help the rear-end turn-in & out of corners faster.
i'm not a lover of the xcelorin system its give me nothing but hassle.
the only thing i can say there is look around..

well i have had mine for around a year now and i cant fault it. its been able to withstand alot of punishment from me. the only things that i ever broke was front wishbones, a front and rear shock tower, a rear pivot block, a rear t-plate and a front hub. but not at the same time. all in all a fantastic car.

Thanks guys for all the comments and hints/tips.

Spares for the common breakages have now been ordered and the Xcelorin unit will be installed this weekend.

I'll be running Trakpower 4900 Lipo in it so my only other question is - how much weight, if any, do I need to add, and where on the car to give it decent balance?

the original t piece from the xxx also fits and you can get it in graphite which strenthens up that section of the car nicely

Hi I am also relatively new here, I have a cr, and have just got an excelorin. I made a bracket out of plastic to mount it on the rear chock mount at 45degree angle, inside the shell. This meant that the fan fitted as it comes, plus it faces forward and gets air flow naturally. I say " made" a bracket in the loosest possible sense, I happened to break a bit of plastic into rougly the shape needed, and cable tied it down, but it works. I am assuming it is OK to run the speedo at a slight upright angle? It just about perfectly clears my battery tubes, doesn't touch the shell, so can't forsee any problems but has anyone else had similar?

Also to keep this on subject I have broken f/wishbones and one rear T plate plus the little a frame plates the hinge pins go through ( one of which is now my speedo mount...bwa ha ha ha). Bloody tough car though as I regularly perform acrobatic manouveres in it.

Just out of curiosity, seeing as the EA3 t-plate breaks so often, has anyone used the standard plastic or graphite t-plate from the XXX with more success? Are they stronger?
