Default newby with ESC and 2.4 FRsky problems :(

hi all,
jus bought a used micro with hobbyking speedo, and Ive put FRsky conversion into my old 3VC

first of all Im shocked by how long it takes to bind the 2.4 on average 15 seconds??

but my biggest issue is that the car just sits there beeping, I assume that this is due to the lack of signal while its binding, but then it makes a lil fanfare style noise and theres nothing, I cant get the motor to work.

I have tried swapping the motor wires, and to make sure the radios ok I put the steering servo onto the other channel, and throttle servo moved the steering, so I know the throttle part of the radio is working

any ideas, I didnt get any instructions with the speedo, but thought they would be plug and play

Quick question - do you have the 3VC right next to the car when you're trying to bind it?

Sometimes the signal can swamp the receiver - try moving the Tx away a foot or 2 while it's binding - sometimes this makes all the difference.

aha yes I do, many thanks, just tried that with it 3 or 4 feet away and it linked up a lot faster, excellent tip thanks, never had this problem with crystals LOL

I found on the net a comment about switching on Tx holding full throttle, then switching on the ESC holding throttle till it beeps, then let go

lo and behold it worked, had forward and brake, then reverse

until I turned it off and went back to it, tried same trick again thinking maybe you have to calibrate every time, but no joy, methinks I got a wrongun, time to look s for cheap ESC maybe?

edit, update, I found some instructions about beeps and calibrating, it followed the exact pattern so Im confident that its correct procedure, but still nothing

hope I can get a cheapy speedo before the weekend
