not my handywork, but here's a prototype touring car for you...click on the prototype button, and the pictures will appear in a new window.

Hi burgie,
That car has been round for a few years is various versions.
Never seen one in person. Think it had trailing rear suspension at one point.

custom made touring cars I would say is 'easier' than a buggy, you don't need a custom body, most TC parts bolt onto flat carbon chassis.

however, making a good touring car is a completely new challenge

yeah, it can be done, but if you look at small to medium companies who make TC's ( I dont really know of any) compared to small to medium companies who make buggies( and well, Jcocnepts, X factory, teamYRD) there are practically no touring car makers LOL.

lets be fair, JConcepts and X-Factory rely on the big players parts.

someone like warpspeed (I don't know TC so this might be wrong) they make a chassis for the TC3/4 or whatever, that is just as much a 'car' as the X-5 is, speaking VERY widely, that is 'just' a chassis for the xx4.

BMI make conversions for the Xray T2, HB Cyclone, TC3/4, but they are mostly just tweaked original chassis.

Diggety Designs do a nice TC4 chassis, but its expensive.

I have loads of ideas for a custom TC chassis, mainly along the lines of a 2 deck, single belt JRXS, or an improved RC Lab, but a. I haven't got the time and b. I haven't got the money.

Anyone want to fund me?

Just to clear a few things up, the guy behind Alien Racing had contacted PTI to produce the car. PIT didn't design the car at all. It had been racing in the French nationals for nearly a year at that point with what I have to say were mixed results. Apparently the handling was great, but the drivetrain wasn't that good, and the chassis design with its side plates was a bitch for tweak.

As for making your own TC prototype I used my own design car for the whole of 2004 season (starting 2 weeks prior to the LRP TCM and ending at the end of 2004). By the end of the year I got the car to get well enough to make the A at the BIWS in modified (at that time there were decent drivers doing mod there), but had got tired of having a DIY'd car so decided to get a 415, with which I did just as well. I got a few mates to try the car and they all said the car felt awesome, super easy to drive yet responsive.

Besides the car had gotten up to a point where I wanted to make modifications that required a few new parts so the plan was to make them and carry on with the 415 for nationals and proto for club racing. I never made the car, instead went on to further modifications and a completely different car is in the works...
