zx5 diffs

Just wondering if there's any special tricks to building these.

Basically I'm having problems with my diff coming undone / slipping.

Have already replaced the main diff balls with associated carbide items. - So thrust race is next on the agenda.

What type do people use?

how smooooooth are you carbide balls(sorry no pun intended) as i have a zx5 and am thinking of rebuilding the diffs cheers steve

If you build it and tighten it up properly it shouldn't really come undone.

it's probably something really simple like the thread is buggered on the screw, or the thread / nylon lock has become damaged on the nut itself.

These are inexpensive to replace, so you may be in luck.

Can honestly say that I've never had a K' diff come loose, but also I always use a new nut when I rebuild them.

Well this is a new diff so the nut isn't the issue.

Was expecting it to back off for the first run or two whilst bedding in but was still coming loose after 5 runs. If I tightened it any more, the action got stiff and notchy. (Why I suspect it's the thrust race to blame.)

These diffs should never come undone.

The only time i had a problem i put the wrong driveshafts in and they was hitting on the nut!!!!!

Only advice i can give on the diffs:-
Use the carbide balls 'UMW123'
or if you really flush then the ceramic 'WBD10'
make sure to pinch the spring before you use to ensure the nut is properly on and you dont damage it when fitting.
I have worked out now how to fit tight and when it loosens up it is normaly perfect. but you will need to check after a couple of runs

Oh and use good quality Grease '96506'
