Default Whoops...

Today in one of my less brilliant moments I managed to connect up my batteries wrongly and unfortunately all of the pink smoke has now escaped from my Novak GTB

It may suprise you to learn I am not a member of Mensa

Now im wondering is it possible/likely this have damaged any of the other electrics?

Exactly what happened was: the battery connector sparked as I shorted it and tried to connect the batteries up wrongly (twice) then I realised my mistake and connected it up the right way and the speedo promptly went up in a cloud of snazzy pink smoke. The lipos seem to be fine, no puffing or smoke, but im wondering if its likely ive damaged them? Also wondering about the reciever/servo/motor. Cheers for any advice and feel free to call me a moron if neccesary.

Everyone's done this I'm sure. I've never ever damaged anything but the ESC so I doubt you'll have fried your reciever or servo etc.

Cheers Jimmy, after I read this I tried charging and discharging the Lipos a bit and they seem to be ok

I've done exactly this with the same ESC and only damaged the ESC.

I guess its something you only do once!

no its not after 20 years of racing i still havent learned, frequency of foul ups are much less now but unless i resort to deans or some other fool proof system the chance is always there

my son did it with his speed passion last year, plugged it in good and proper not just a touch!I was pleased to find that all that went up in smoke(lots of smoke) was the power cap as it seems as the esc was not turned on it was saved……and I was slightly less cross.

Novaks do seem unforgiving, It the only esc that I have had thats gone up in smoke mid race, all that was left by the time we got to it was the heatsink, took the body shell and new lipo with it

I had a GTB ages ago and that stopped mid race in a cloud of magic smoke and a lick of flame. Never bought another Novak again. Their motors seem to be more reliable than most others but unfortunately the same can't be said for the ESCs.

I've done it with a couple of Xerun's they fit a fuse device to the Power cap board to protect ESC so only had to replace cap boards, the first ezrun I had was not so lucky!! No smoke but no drive either
