Default Buying in the US

Alright guys,

Mrs is going away to America next year and asked if I wanted anything while she's over there. Is there any point in buying over there due too -
What can you bring over on a plane?
Do you have to pay import duties?

As I do like to support uk based shops more like MB & Demon

Cheers Luke

Hi Westie

I do this a lot as I travel to the US every month. It is considerably cheaper but very hard to find good shops near where I am travelling. What I do is order online from Amain or RCtech for example and get it shipped (often for free to my hotel or office in the USA). I can then pick it up when I get there and bring it back in my luggage. If I am going to buy something big, I often bring an extra soft bag with me to pack extra stuff into.

The current customs duty free limit for flying commercial is £390 per person, which gets you quite a lot of stuff - currently $642 worth. (it is less - £270 - if you travel by private plane)

Yes you will be fine but I would advise taking electronics and batteries in hand baggage not checked bags as they have been confiscated out of checked bags in the past and you have not opportunity to retrieve them. Hand baggage seems to work well.
