Hey all, im after some guidance as have been out of racing a long time (15 years)
I used to race 1/10 buggies 4wd schumacher cat 2000ec until I couldnt get bits, etc, Want to start up again but dont know whether to go 2wd or 4wd, I liked my old schumacher and hotbodies buggies and wondering what would be good to start off with, Also im used to racing with nich and brushed motors and seems this is far from the pace now, I want to know if there is a back to basics instructions for lipo and brushless to read up on, So any help would be appreciated, got about 300-350 to spend, what would you recommend? |

1.best advice get to a local club (one you think you could enjoy being a member of
2. see what popular at that club 3 see what your local model shop supports (if you are lucky enough to have one) ask the locals they usually are friendly folk ![]() all current brands are more than capable 2wd can be a bit cheaper to run than 4wd on high grip carpet or astro it tends to be more popular now than 4wd your returning after a few years off and it sounds like you know what you were doing before so its evolution for you not revolution ![]() keep reading this site and look out for sales its not always neccesary to buy new regards dave fid |

Well im exeter baised in devon so nearest clubs are tiverton and torquay,
I just thought it would be nice to get one built for the start of the season next year, There are some local model shops around my area but my closest one doesnt stock any high end branded stuff, mainly "disposable" kind of models, Been looking at the b4, cougar, cat k1 and the durangos, I still do have lots of my old electrics (27mhz 14t brushed team orion motor 7.2v3000mah nimh sticks,) Is it worth putting these in or would just be outclssed by the newer brushless etc |

2WD are more popular these days, especially at Tiverton and Torquay. Durangos are popular, they're cheap and pretty good, probably not the best but very good for the price.
You'll want to ditch the nimh and brushed motor. The 27Mhz radio gear will work fine with newer brushless setups, and means you can spend more cash on the other stuff, then get a newer 2.4Ghz transmitter later on. Stuff can still be expensive too (for top end brands) but you can also get good stuff cheap, you can get decent lipos for under £20, decent motors for well under £30 and brushless motors dont need much, if any maintenance. I've recently got back into it again after a 15 year gap, you'll be surprised how quick they are now. Theres also a nice club ran every other Weds at Tipton St John, worth popping along when you get it all. |

Well if you liked the old Schumacher then the sv2 or kf would be good choice think the sv2 better all round car and parts easy to get and always second hand stuff on here for sale and you have action model centre in Torquay who do a lot of Schumacher parts and sw rc in yatton and we are running indoor off road not this Sunday but next Sunday at Torquay acorn centre why don't you pop down and have a look at what people are running and find out for yourself , you will find a lot of kyosho rb6 but there goes your budget

There is a cracking club with a great offrosd track at the mendip on road circuit now too. Might be worth a trip

Check out the worm racing section on here, we're in Weston-super-Mare, so bit north of you, and in the process of being rebranded to Mendip RC Raceway since the off-road guys took over the running of the whole Mendip site (on-road and off-road tracks) recently! New website being constructed here www.mendiprcraceway.co.uk with more info...plus look up Mendip RC Raceway on Facebook too. We have a trackside shop supporting us...South West RC...based near us in Yatton, they also have a section on this forum, and attend the Tiverton club as well! Most popular class in the SW currently is 2wd, Durango being quite a popular brand, but my personal choice is the current Yokomo mid motor 2wd, which is growing in followers...amazing value, and great car to boot! Have a feeling SW RC will be stocking Yokomo bits very soon too as they've just opened a new shop! Just go lipo, brushless and 2.4ghz and don't look back...all really easy, no maintenance, no hassle, just easy racing all round! 8.5t brushless is a good all round motor for 2wd in our regions tracks. Check the South West region section on here too.

I came back after 22 years and bought a K1, not the easiest of cars to drive, needs fine tuning a lot, when you compare it to the 44.2 my son has, that's easier to drive.
But I would say go 2WD, and look at the 4.2 or KR or Yokomo I found I could lap faster in the Yoko than the K1, the KR ive just got recently and that seems very agile. The 4.2 because its associated and just works. I used to drive hotshot, but the games changed now, Brushless Motors, batteries that last 25 mins its great Ive got my Yoko for sale if your interested 130 delivered, only used it at 1 meeting for 3 races, got too many cars

hey, I'm running a B4.1 with the centro conversion. it handles better with the conversion but its not a cheap option. The yokamo would be a good choice as it comes mid motored so no conversion kit needed. Its also a pretty good price at MB Models at the moment.

I'd be running the yokomo bmax 2 if a rb6 hadn't turned up for the same money i don't think anythin tops Japanese durability and both are ace rear and midmotor setup

Thankyou all for your replys,
I have decided that I will prob get a 2wd to start with, (then maybe 4wd) I have been looking at the b4, cougars , yokomo, and the durango, I like them all but think I will just buy one an run it for a bit and see how it goes. I have just dug out my old (retro) stuff and swapped into a tamiya tb01 I had lying about. Just to see if it worked to put into a rolling chassis. |

Thankyou for this I was already looking at the short course trucks and was looking at getting one after the buggy. I have always loved the close contact racing.
Just think the buggy will be more usable at more locations, |

Probably. However you can run short course at torquay too. Ive been told there is separate class. And by the way been told its possible race short course at in cornwall rc club at perranporth and dirteffect at frome. Just in those places there no separate class, just run together with 1/8 bugies. hope it helps

I run the Tipton club mentioned above. We run in the village of Tipton St John near Ottery St Mary. Which is about a 20 minute drive from Exeter. Our next meeting is next Wednesday from 7 pm until 10pm. We also have our Xmas meeting on Saturday the 28th of December from 2pm until 8pm.
