Default this changes everything!

Just been drooling over the new canon 5D markII and while as a still camera it stands to be awesome, its the video feature thats the most amazing bit. 1080p out of a DSLR!! WTF!!

Check out the vid one of my fav photographers sites http://vincentlaforet.com/
When i saw the bit with the close up of the guys face.....! OMG

If the footage from new Nikon D90 is anywere as good as that video then both the cameras are gonna shake up the video industry.

From today everything changes!!

yeah the D90 also has great video - I was tempted. I've been wanting to get into video for years but the cameras were frankly crap. I got close to getting something like a sony VX2100 a couple of times but the resolution and interlaced crapness put me off. I've got a few lenses so I might wait and see what the next Nikon offers - definitely the way to go instead of dedicated video cameras.

Totally, i'm just stunned really. Its not filmic but its better than some 1080p camcorders i've used.

I really want one... need more work

so that video on that site was taking using the video mode on a high-end 'stills' camera?

I am well impressed with the clarity on that vid!!

how much - dare I ask??

Even a lot of the higher HD camcorders cant produce the same sort of image as they tend to use smaller sensors which cant produce the same sort of noise free high iso or the depth of field that a 35mm camera can produce.

Effectively it's a digital 35mm Cine camera, I've seen quite a few forums slagging the camera off while I tried to tell them of the advantages of a downscaled 35mm sensor but about 90% of the people had their opinion changed when they actually saw the video from it themselves.

If it is at all possible for me to buy one I am planning on buying one, i've wanted a 5D for quite a while and this is basically a 5D on steriods, I honestly think in the canon R&D department they put a photograph of me on the wall and said "Lets make a camera for that guy".

The only thing missing would be 120fps, even if it had to be at a cut resolution!

I was talking to the guy in my local shop on Friday, I was in there buying a new bag. He was going off his tits big time raving about the new 5d.

I think that's what I'd wait for myself - the Nikon D90 has 24P which is apparently the holy grail or something, but I'd like the ability to go to higher frame rates when needed for smooth slomo and such.

£2.3k is the RRP for the body, I think there has been a few places taking pre-orders at 2k. Of course a camera of this quality would probably show up loads of flaws on any piece of glass under the £700 region

I think 3k is wishful if you get carried away with the lenses!
Just had the wife stood here and me just staring at the monitor. I held off from tears but only `cos she brought me a choccy biscuit.

3k if you want one lens, in that video they used about 10 different lenses

With photography it's a trade off being generally good at a wide range or exceptionally good at a narrow range.

You would generally be looking at 3 zooms if you want a reasonable coverage then if you are after the absolute last in IQ and the fastest glass you'll want primes, you'll want more of those

Can do Chris from Calumet!

I've got a bunch of high quality glass already so i'd just need the body

£2k sounds a lot, BUT really for what is a still camera with as much res as you'd ever need (Cause really film was only ever 16mp at best!!!), and a high quality video cam with the ability to change lenses its great value.

Your looking at more than that for a HDV camera of similar image quality, which will only have a fixed lens! and will take crap stills.

This is something i'm going to work hard to get as i've never wanted a camera so much, even when I wanted a eos 1n back in my film days.
