Cool Team Associated RC10 Classic Roll Cage & Chassis!!!!

Yes!!! I am finishing a roll cage for my RC10 Classic
Answering the personal question of which vintage model to run, I decided to once more jump into deep waters and design another roll cage, but this time for my RC10!.

After giving it plenty of thoughts I finally decided that I was not up to the task of racing and maintaining my Optima, which I was planning on racing it with one of my Javelin cages. Instead I choose my RC10 Classic, which is an excellent buggy and now with it's re-release there will be plenty of spares to go thru. But I do hate to race the same buggy as others, or as they say; "the belly buttom, everyone has one". And foremost I do hate to give up the idea of racing my Javelin, hence the RC10 roll cage was born!!!

To be honest the RC10's roll cage we are making looks very similar the Javesteels we've made, but it has some differences here and there.
First main difference; ALUMINUM ROLL CAGE YESSSSS!!!!
Second; No upper side guards, just to give it a distinctive look.
Third: Louvered panel might be an option.
And some others minor stuff.

Anyways, enough talking(or writting), I'll be posting pics soon.

Default Team Associated RC10 Classic Roll Cage

Ok, here are two preliminary and crappy pictures of the RC10 with the roll cage installed. The poject it's 80% finished, it still needs the roof panel, side guard braces, sail panels, under panels and the rear louver panel. All thos parts are going to be CAD and laser cut later on.

Basically the roll cage convertion consist of: main chassis with integrated side guards, upper roll cage and all the parts listed above which need to be done.

The battery pack which I am going to use and to which I calculated the lenght of the battery tray is for a Lipo hard case, ROAR approved. It fits nicely with about 1/16" front to back play.

The servo is right up front of the battery and protected by the number plate that is built into the upper cage.

The upper cage can be removed without disassembling the main chassis. The only thing needed to do is remove the rear shocks, the two screws on the front kick plate and two tie straps that hold tight the rear. I opted to hold the back of the cage with two large tie straps for the following reasons; ease of disassembly, is light and tough and in case of a frontal collition much of the energy will be absorbed by them.

The ESC is going to be located on top of the tranny, just beneath the louver panel

The receiver is going to be double taped to the shock tower.

Overall I am very pleased with it, is very light, looks cool and I do think is even stronger than the original chassis. It feels hard to the feel and when trying to torque the chassis it barely flexes, much less than the original. In resume it can be manhandled.

Well here it is enjoy!

Cool Team Associated Rc10 Classic Roll Cage

Ok, finished!!!
I decided not to add more stuff and just keep it nice and simple, otherwise it would just be ending up like another Javelin

So to keep things simple and light I designed this cockpit in aluminum. Is a one piece; side covers + roof panel done in one piece of .032 thick alloy. It is nicely held in place with tie straps and two screws that attach to the transmission bulkhead. Inside I will be placing the receiver and the ESC on top of the tranny's brace as mentioned before.

We are going to make more of these, some buddys of mine are already into me like a tick on a cow, so if anyone is interested I will be adding these roll cages into my webstore for just $95 bucks a piece

Will post later with electronics installed My vintage racer!!!

Many thank's for the kind words!!!

I am all exited, probabbly will install a thing or two today.
One question; What is the strongest motor the 6-gear tranny can handle?
Also, any tips or recomendations on the 6-gear? Unfortunately and amazingly, I've never driven an RC10 in the past. I only ran two about two years ago from my buddy's; one melted the spur diff and the other went into a crash that got it dissabled. Can I just bolt a stealth tranny in there? Maybe a modern B4 tranny? I am planning on keeping it vintage with a stock brushed setup, but I know me and my friends dont call me "Greedy Gardy" for nothing!!! Lol I am always looking for more speed!!!!!!!!!
Thanks

Greedy Gardy

How do you get the battery in? Through the front window?
I'm looking forward to see it with the electronics in.

I expected to see a real-racing replica, but am pleasantly surprised you went for your own design. Came through real good looking.

It looks awesome!!! I'm also looking forward to see the car ready to run.

Some mud guards and plexiglass "windows" would be nice to protect components

Great work! This is how buggys should look like. What RC10 version is it mounted on? Is RC10 Classic a specific model?

Thank you all, very glad you all like it!!!
I am very pleased with how it turned
Today I made a very small update; installed the steering servo!!!
I also just noticed that I do not have not even one brushed esc laying around, so I also ordered one of those chepo ebay ESC for the the stock Reedy, hope it arrives soon!!
If I have a bit of time tomorrow night will install the 2.4 receiver.
I am also inclining to go stealth, the 6-gear looks funny, specially the spur, it does has some play I dont like. Also the steering bellcrank is all cracked, need a new one, perhaps one of the aluminum ones.

Yes the battery fits nicely thru the window and down to the cup, very easy secured inside!!!
I do have the battery dedicated for my RC10 already in, will post pics later.

Update!
I finally went home and took a couple of minutes to install the ESC and receiver. I bought one of those China's $10 buck ESC's for brushed motors and installed a vintage Futaba 75mhz receiver with Magnum radio, vintage!!
Tested it and it all worked fine!! I will post pics later of the finished RC10 Roll Cage buggy.
Also this Saturday is my birthday and every year I invite a couple friends to my house to race buggys in the backyard track, kind of a RC racing & BBQ fun day. So it will the maiden run for the RC10, will post pics and probabbly video.
