Default vintage tamiya avante 2001 and king cab upgrades

I have just rediscovered my two old RC cars. want to get them running again but bewildered by all the new electrics.
can either of these handle a brushless motor and lipos or should I just get NI-Mh and a 540t motor.
if they can be upgraded do i need to change gearing and any suggestions on kit to put in them.
Many thanks.

Hi Matt!

They can both handle lipos and brushless motors provided you used an ESC(electronic speed controller) which support them (most do)
The only issue you may come across is fitting a lipo battery in one designed for Sub-C cells.

NiMh battery packs are still readily available and mega cheap! When these two cars were sold, the best packs gave you 1700mAh. We're now upto 5000!!
You can then use either brushless or brushed motors.
Most of us on here seem to be of the opinion not to go faster than a 10.5T brushless motor in case of damaging the vintage gearboxes.
Just for reference 540 is the motor can size, which in 1/10th models is still the standard.

Regards

both still need wheels and new electrics. I'd like to upgrade the avante2001 shocks and get a new body; the brush painted one I did when I was 11 and had no idea an airbrush even existed needs a change. the king cab body is destroyed so will replace with something else as an original is too expensive, maybe one day when I retire them I will get original parts. hopefully can get black lightweight wheels for the avante 2001 when the egress is re-re'd

Nice Cars!
I love the King Cab and i still race mine, very good truck.
If you still have the original transmission stay away from hi power brushless systems, stay in the 17.5 to 13.5 turns area, if brushed you can go safely down to 19T. Anything more strong will put the weak original ball diff in trouble and it will slip....
If you want to use hi power motors you have to look for a TTC transmission (the Super Astute one) or for a belt one (Lethal Weapon) but you enter in an "expansive field"....
About the body if you want a good one you can stay away from the original one and but a very good repro from teambluegoove (on the Bay), thay are cheap and very well done.
Hope this help.
Bye.
