The car seems really lively with Lipos in!

Are we having our first buggy series round this coming Tuesday Chris? Peter is asking if we want to do that (as we missed last tuesday which should have been round 1).

Blank canvas and start of a new series tonight, who's going to win round 1?

Tables need moving again, so early start on that will be good.

Default Your RC Club needs You ->

Subject: Your RC Club needs You ->
Dear JORCR Member,

Since February/March this year we have seen a noticeable drop in the numbers of people racing regularly, which has culminated in the last two weeks racing being cancelled because only 4 people turned up. Now the last 2 weeks have been either side of an outdoor regional for the buggy drivers, so people may have been busy, but it is the overall downward trend that we are worried about.

It took a lot of time and effort to build up the numbers and we would like to act now to ensure that effort is not wasted. We would like to understand the reasons behind this fall in numbers and have prepared the following short questionnaire, which should only take a few minutes to complete. We also have some ideas on the way we can improve racing at Jarrow and we would like your opinion on these proposals.

We would be most grateful if you could spend the time to answer these questions.

Please forward to any other JORCR member who has not already received it.

Thank you

JORCR committee

PS We understand that there will be no exam tables to shift this Tuesday and for the rest of the summer. Yeeeeesssssssss!

Reasons why Numbers are falling:

1. Moving the exam tables is too much effort and I will return to racing after the exams are finished.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

2. The class of racing I prefer is pushed out by the other class ( buggy or touring car).

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

3. I disagree with the way the evenings racing is run.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

4. I don't like the club setup and the way the current committee run things.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

5. Tuesday is not good for me and I would prefer an alternative night.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

6. The club does not cater fully for my class of racing i.e. I would prefer carpet for touring cars or jumps for buggys.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

7. The costs of the evenings racing is too much.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

8. The facilities at the club are poor i.e club tables, mains power, lighting in the hall.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

9. It is genuinely too far for me to travel and the start and finsh times are too early / late ..

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

10. It is summer with lighter evenings and I am doing other things..
Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

11. None of the above apply and I am not able to attend for personal reasons, which are outside the control of the club..

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

12. I have the following view on this matter:

- Please write your comment here

Proposals:-

1. We race on carpet for the benefit of the touring cars, with short sections of jumps and slippy floor for the buggys.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

2. Would you prefer one week touring cars followed by one week buggies.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

3. I understand that carpet will take more time to lay down and am prepared to arrive earlier to assist with track building.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

4. We only race once a fortnight.

Rate this suggestion: 1 - Strongly Disagree, 2 - Disagree, 3 - Neither Agree or Disagree, 4 - Agree, 5 - Strongly Agree

5. I have the following idea/s on how we may promote and improve racing at Jarrow:

Hi Ian,

I don't know if the intention is for people to answer here or somewhere else, but I can tell you the reason that I have not been attending for some time is mostly because of the travel time (hard for me to get there by 7pm with the combination of Tyne Bridge traffic and my partners work hours), and partly because of the cost (race fees are reasonable however 30 miles of petrol and the breakages/tyre wear are unfortunately beyond our means right now - like a lot of others we are now suffering from the economic conditions with a big mortgage and rising fuel and food costs).

Well for me i work shifts and i cant get there every week. I enjoy club racing just as much as regionals and try to get there every week.

At present my shifts mean that i miss 2 nights out of every 8 and 2 nights i cant get there til half 7. The other 4 nights i can attend.

The tables dont put me off racing at all. (a bit exercise never hurt anyone) As far as touring cars vs buggies etc, I dont mind either way.

However one thing i have noticed from doing regionals and nationals. Alot of other clubs race on tracks which have alot of grip. At regionals there are always alot of carpet down and some clubs such as worksop have a grippy surface to start with before they lay carpet. I think adding alot of grip ie carpet would allow everyone to improve their skills for future regional events.

A suggestion for a better night would be to have a seperate heat for any begginers that turn up. There are alot of different levels of drivers at jarrow and although people might get lapped 3 or 4 times per race this does not pose a problem.
However sometimes when begginer drivers are present and they are getting lapped 8 or 9 times a race, or are wandering down the track the wrong way this frustrates other drivers who are trying to put in good times.

Also 8 and 10 car finals have caused mayhem in the past as the track is often tight and not enough marshalls have been present to support this.

However all in all I am very happy with the way Jarrow is run and appreciate all the hard work from the commitee all year round...

neil...

Default JORCR Dates for Your Diary

Dear JORCR Member,
A couple of dates for your diary.

Tuesday 2nd September 2008, 7.30pm – EGM & Work Night
The committee would like to call an EGM for this date to start at 7.30pm.

We would be most grateful if all members could make every effort to attend to discuss the future of the club after a pretty disastrous summer. Members opinions are sought on the way forward and how the club can meet the needs of existing members and encourage new members to join.

There are a number of ideas concerning times and dates of race meetings to be discussed i.e. move to a Sunday, race fortnightly, special TC and buggy meetings and combinations of all these.
Agenda
  1. Opinions from the floor
  1. Race meeting dates.
  2. Committee Structure.
  3. AOB
Any member who can arrive early (6.30pm) and help with the repair of the equipment would be most appreciated. Bring along your tools and ideas for new equipment and track layouts.

Tuesday 9th September 2008
Return to racing after the holidays. Usual start time, track build from 6.00pm onwards, first heat on the line 7.00pm-ish

If you have contact details for any other members, then please pass on this info.

Many thanks and see you Tuesday

JORCR Committee
