Default 1s ESC help (boosters? rx packs? etc)

Hi all,

Looking at sorting out electrics for a serpent s120 LTX to use stock 10.5t racing BRCA series blinky and 13.5T blinky in with the supastox for practise n fun at a local club.

Now this is where im having the big issue, i can get any 10.5t and 13.5t stock motor i want, its the ESC im struggling with.

I want simplicity really, I dont want to faff around with brownouts and cut offs and low power and this that the rest of it, i want something that works, thats it.

So what do i do?
option 1- get a silly expensive 1s ESC that can apparently run everything including servo, receiver and transponder / Possible low voltage issues? brownouts?

option 2 -just buy a 2s ESC and a booster / brownout issues?

Cheers all

I use a Viper VTX1 on 1S and its superb, real smooth lots of power and speed, never a glitch and runs cool as a cucumber.
They're not cheap and only really available from the states at the moment.

Glitching may depend on what radio gear your using though as per any set up
There not cheap and

How much is the viper vtx 1 to import? did look at those and look lovely

Radio wise most likely on a sanwa mt4, servo will be a core RC 5kg 0.08 at 6v

Cheers

Core 1s £50 not silly price.
New hobbywing v2 149 in stock at mbmodels now.
Or as that's now available look for a second hand one on her.

Isnt the core 1s quite limited though? and a bit naff for what i need, plus i dunno if it will be happy without a fan on, as i cant use an ESC with a fan, not enough room

or will it cater as much as say a lrp flow?

my advice would be read your first post, and decide if you want cheap or "silly" price as you put it.

core limited? its capable of running both classes you ask about, for £50.
the flow you compare it to is at least 3 x the price and you still need a booster.

The only reason i put off the core was because it seemed so cheap that it could end up being more grief than its worth

if the core RC pace 45 can do the following ill list below then im sorted and ill buy one.

- Run without the fan on as there is not enough space
- No brownouts
- Able to cope with motor, receiver, transponder, servo and still deliver proper performance

The Viper would be approx £120 plus shipping, this comes with the program card. You can find details here:

http://viper-rc.com/vtx1.php

http://www.shopviperrc.com/ProductDe...ode=6VSVT01001

Lee Martin is supposed to also be starting to import the Viper stuff but not sure if he has the VTX1.

Radio wise your looking good, I also use the Sanwa MT4 and its awesome. I've never used the Core RC servo, I use a low profile Blue Bird but Savox do a dedicated 1/12 servo, I think it's the 1250 which may be worth a look.

If you go with a receiver pack that will deliver whatever volts and amps you need. Get a LiFe 2S pack so you won't need a voltage regulator. A 2S LiPo receiver pack will need a regulator to be sure of compatibility with every possible receiver/speedo combo.

If you go with a regulator get an RCDynamics one as that will again be fit and forget. Others suffer problems and the Novak ones seem to be the most troublesome. About £35.

I'd go with a 1S speedo, second-hand HobbyWing 1S v2.1 or LRP/Nosram SSX v2. This will not have any brownout problems with the Sanwa gear and the Core servo. No wiring problems, nothing else to charge, fit and forget.

Cash it all up an make a choice - but the 1S speedo option is the best and easiest. HTH

Brilliant cheers dude, when you add a decent regulator and couple of life packs it soon racks up so id rather get a GOOD 1s speedo

the lrp SSX v2 is out of stock everywhere

The core speedo will run with no fan perfectly on 1s you will only need a fan if you run it on 2s and there are some settings you can play with like punch and brake and there are timing settings but if your running blinky it don't matter plus if you do decide to upgrade you should be able to sell it easy enough

The LRP SSX V2 has been superseeded by the new flow speedos.

Which needs a booster as I put previously.

So the flow needs a booster but the nosram pearl doesnt, looks like nosram may take this one!

Nosram is same but red. lrp state in manual that a booster is needed for 1s so I would say same for nosram

Didn't realise the LRP couldn't do 1S, saw that the voltage input was 3.7-7.4V so presumed that it had a voltage booster included, but reading the manual it does say that you need a receiver pack for 1S. I think that's a bit sneaky to be honest.

The Nosram Pearl is pretty similar to the LRP, from the same factory etc. The manual states that the voltage input is 4.8-7.4V so I think also no good for what you want. The link for the manual is here;

http://www.nosram.com/en/service/manuals/?file=442

The older LRP/Nosram SXX range had problems with the BEC circuit and an updated board kit was realeased so if you purchased one of them you'd probably want the update kit as well.

There is also the Team Orion R10 120A 1-2S speedo, you can find it here at JE Models;

http://www.jemodels.com/electric-mod...ategory_id=532

The Vampire SR range also says that it can do 1S but I've never seen them running 1S and their website is down/being updated and so no chance of a manual to confirm.

For 1S with no booster or receiver pack I think your better off with either the HobbyWing or Viper or Core RC if on a budget.

Hope this helps.

I did also see the Team onion as i call em, but forgot to ask about them in store!

No matter

One off topic thing, my serpent LTX S120 was not shipped because serpent are releasing a new version next week, anyone got an idea about this? i cant find news or anything anywhere!

HW v2.1 120A 1S is the one to have and is an excellent speedo. Mine is quite old now; I've done it harm, had it repaired and left it on the shelf for almost a year. Got it out for my new GT12, plugged it in, downloaded the blinky software and bingo! Great stuff.
