Question Lazer Handling Woes

Hi all,
I’m new to the Lazer having picked up one (an FS2 SP) in the autumn and only raced it a couple of times.
A few issues I am having are all shock & spring related:
I think that the pistons with the car are bit pants, I checked to see what was fitted ( got the car second hand by the way ) and they were both 5 hole, the rears were just too hard and the front seamed too jumpy or over sprung, I have been using 30wt in the rear and 45wt in the front.
As for springs - well I used the kit springs and the car was pretty much un-driveable, then got some kyosho gold rears and orange fronts, this made the car much better but was a tad lively and found I could not push hard. This week I tried some Losi springs - Black at the front and pink at the rear = car was poor, then I put some Red springs on the rear = car a bit better but its still not sharp on the track like say my Bmax is - that is so much better through the corners.
Any advise an experienced Lazer driver can offer I would be grateful - I am running the car indoors on a mixed polished floor with carpet (York to be exact) I have been using mini pins - thinking mini spikes would be better as the car has been snapping on occasion when coming off the carpet onto the main floor = not good really…
Also what are the best tapered pistons to use that are a direct fit, since kyosho don’t have any as I have just put some yokomo ones on to see and they are a tab loose between the e-clips ?
Cheers - Rob.

Hi Rob , have a look here http://www.petitrc.com/setup/kyosho/...azerZX5FS.html

Try a medium grip indoor setup maybe?nothing is going to be exact and obviously everyone expects different things from cars but it maybe a good starting point for you ?

In that part of the world it might well be worth speak to Nick Caro @ JE Models for specific setups.

I'm happy to help where I can, pm me with an email address & I'll send you some info.
My guess from what you have written so far is that it's a geometry issue with the setup as stated shock details aren't a world away from what we would run with mini pins.
Always best to do a full setup sheet when asking these questions though.

Hi all, apologies for not replying to your replies on my ZX5 handling issues for ages….

I have been fairly busy + have another 2 different buggy’s to deal with.
Anyway, what I have done is attached several photos of my car so you can see were everything is on my current set-up.
For the shocks these are:
Front = 45wt oil, Orange X-gear springs, 5 hole pistons.
Rear = 35wt oil, Gold X-gear springs, 6 hole pistons.

If you can let me know if you have any changes you would like to recommend to me so I can give them ago when I next run this car at York (20th April).

Many Thanks - Rob.

Not knowing much about the surface I'd suggest speaking to Nick Caro @ JE Models as he will no doubt know somebody running a Lazer there who can give you the best advice.

The first thing i noticed is that you have the shortest possible front camber link. I always run the longest possible front link. Also check that you have 3 degrees of rear toe in i think it is F out on the rear and B in on the front. I am at work at the moment so cannot check.
For stability check that you have the 10 degree caster blocks fitted.

As Roger said Nic Caro is the best person to talk to. You will find some of his setups on the petitrc setup page.

I cannot help you with the shock set up as i prefer the small bores (just personal preference, mostly coz i have all the springs).

Cheers

Paul
