Built in Hotpoint fridge freezer !

Just got home from a good days racing at the the EoE regional to discover that our fridge freezer is not working !!
Light comes on , it's now been defrosted , switch off for a while , when you switch on the temp dial it sometimes clicks and starts to work then just stops !!

Any domestic appliance genius' ?
