evening could someone give me some tips on the required track sizes for the diffrent classes.??

Too short is sub 20 second laps (average), this will be 15+ laps per 5 minutes. Anywhere in between is about right in my opinion. The physical length to do this depends on the speed of the track, as you can understand. A fast layout will have to be longer, but slow it down with technical corners and jumps and it won't need to be as long. So its not about the physical length, its what you do with it that matters. Slightly off topic but im not starting up another thread.
Why do we run to a laptime "window" of 22-28 secs a lap. What is deemed wrong with a 40 second lap lie in rallyX ![]() Just a question, im not saying its wrong ![]() |

at the speeds 10th scale run, a 40+ second lap would mean the car going so far away from the drivers stand we would be racing dots

The other issue with a long lap, is that say a car just crosses the line at 299 seconds. It then has to complete last lap which if it is a 40 second lap, takes the race to 339 seconds.
This will mean less time for the next heat to get on the track, OR a longer gap between heats = a longer day. With a short lap, the issue is that when car 10 is starting, car 1 may be coming around to complete lap 1. Personally I hate this, at EPR when the stagger was spread, I was pulling over left right and centre and struggled to set a time.... well, I didn't. |

I like tracks just a little on the large side, keeps me interested longer with more corners, well that is as long as it is a technical track that has corners....
![]() I'd ask a few of the top lads thier opinion, but then make sure it is raceable even by the people in heat one, I think that's where a lot of tracks go wrong IMHO. My suggestions: Keep technical, twisty, bumpy, (difficult) jumpy bits close to the rostrum and central. Include some nice height changes if possible. Have a good mix of corners (not all 90 or 180 degree, some nice sweepers, multi apex corners etc). Make any feature you create usable from multiple directions to increase the number of layouts possible. G

I agree with what has been said already, went to coventry astro this weekend just gone and certain parts of the track you can't see mainly the far side, hard to know where exactly you are so the fact you can't see means that you have no idea of your lines. Think the rostum has alot of effect on the track.

dont have the track going to far away from you.
make sure all up and down ramps are in clear view dont do what i did and make a 180 as the frist corrner off the straight..its crap in the wet and you have drivers breaking halfway down the straight.

And dont have 1 ft high kerbs going round a sweeper so you cant see your car if your on the line. (Southend onroad) They actually had to paint a line on the track about a foot away from the kerb so you could judge where your car was

Think also everyone goes on about air time etc not a big fan as I can never jump the way I want to, so that could have a major effect on your lap times. Offroad does not have to mean flying through the air. In the old days everyone was so close that it was down to individual mistakes rather than landing a jump wrong.

I was shocked by it myself... pity it only made half a lap... at least you got further round the first lap than I did!
Put it back on after the last leg of the A and it was great, was actually easier to drive with the 4.5! ![]() |

the track at the last welsh regional had more blind spots than a 'dalmatians in a dark room' world record attempt.
it was pretty obvious that the track had been planned and laid without anyone bothering to go up onto the rostrum to look; there was a high speed s-bend section where the track looked about an inch wide, even though it was the normal width - and a table top jump completely obscured the entry to a hairpin. nothing more frustrating! If it was up to me, I'd measure out a rectangular area, mark it out, design a track, lay it, then double and triple check for blind spots FROM THE ROSTRUM! |

Be thankful that you can design the track from the ground up.In 1/10th,your lanes need to be a min of 3m wide,and track length a min of 130 m long. Try racing your cars on an 1/8th track,which at 276m long gives lap times of around 50 secs,and then complain that your track is too long.
![]() Unfortunately,this is the only track that there is for me,anywhere near my home.The closest true 1/10th off-road to me is 137 miles away in Stonehaven Aberdeenshire. ![]()

thanks for the replys lads...
we have laid the pipe work today 500 mtrs was used... made it a nicelong straight but also some techy stuff.. the track width is 4.5m and 5 mtrs in places.. we will beworking on fixing the pipe down tomorrow and fingers crossed lookingfor a rostrum then working on the fenceing.. as for running the track will be open 9am-8pm 7 days a week at a cost of £3 per car which i dont think is bad cheers lee |
