Default hand made experiments with kits

I have noticed that off roaders as a breed are far more adventurous than TC drivers, and to a lesser extent 1/12 drivers in having a real go at fiddling with and developing their own cars.

I find this really interesting simply because it's nice to see drivers having some faith in their own set up nous so to speak. Not only that, but it's a kinda return to an important aspect of RC cars - modelling (and I'm not talking the Zoolander type either)

What do others think of this - it's just a bit of forum banter/discussion

I'm basically a newbie but one of the reasons I picked 1/10 off road is the fact you can make so many adjustments to your car. Even though I can barely change wheels at the moment...

I love to experiment! I've tried all sorts of mad ideas with my Caster SK10. I've tried to increase the amount of flex in the chassis. By cutting slots in it and adding flex joints to the upper deck. Also lengthened the wheelbase and tried other assorted wee experiments! You shouldn't be frightened to try stuff...

You should love the 'I made this section' of the forum

In the 25 years I've been in this hobby I've spent maybe 5% of the time at racetracks and 95% behind the bench working on all kind of projects: from simple mods to total conversions and scratch-builts.

IT is a very important part of the hobby to me, and even more so today as it is the part of the hobby you can pick up whenever it arranges you.

(By the way, offroad-onroad-scale doesn't matter that much: all fun. But things sure get more complicated when you evolve from 2 to 4WD)

PS: one thing I've learned: not too expect too much from my own genius. After all, even if things work quite well (and believe me; they don't allways) I'm still the same poor driver who spends too little time on the track

I decided to focus some time on my old E Firestorm, it was my first RC car and I never thought it would run again. I do run on a tight budget, but seeing what some people made on here I wanted to give it a go. I think because on road cars are so highly strung and fragile it makes them a hard place to start doing 'real' mods on without messing it all up. I am now just searching for inspiration on what to try next ( my general rule of thumb is if it doesn't stop the car from being in one piece, it goes)
