Default eBay !!!!

Is it just me our are people finding eBay is going down the pan at the moment ?

A lot of people seem to bid and win and change there minds !

Or win then complain about postage

Or say they have never revived stuff when I no they have (and proof of postage counts for nothing with eBay )

Or am I just having a bad run :-(

Interested on people's thoughts

Regards

It's happened a few times to me. I just cover myself with recorded delivery now. Also I tend to over exaggerate any bad points.

Yes I no what you mean

There are still a lot of good points to it don't get me wrong !!!

The worst this I had is when I put a golf v5 on there (I still have it lol) it sold for 1300 arranged for the chap to come to collect !!! The then told me how made up it was as the pictures didn't do it justic etc etc then asked me to take a 1k and said he refused to go past 1.1k !!! I obviously refused to sell him the car and he left me neg feedback

I now still have the car sat on my drive lol

I will now only buy on eBay. I don't sell anything at all (unless its mint condition and recorded delivery). There's far too many scam artists out there, most of which are far cleverer than I, coupled with the fact ebay /PayPal always sides with the buyer. And then the to add salt to the wound, a month after selling your item (and inevitably being forced to refund the scamming buyer as he claims not to receive it) you get wolloped with eBay's extortionate fees system........No ta !

Me neither in four years. I send biggish stuff by Hermes local drop off. Excellent service, cheap & really good tracking. Pay up front, drop off the parcel at a local shop, not hanging around waiting for the collection. A lot better than dealing with the old biffers in our local PO.

Also, I always make sure the pictures are very clear and show all good/bad points.

depends what your selling...

my advice for a seller is make sure you put up decent pics and state clearly what your selling. with any defects etc..

less risk of someone not being happy and trying to refund/scam you.

oh and always post recorded no matter the value of the sale!

Have to admit I think ebay isn't as it was, I think ebay themselves are turning a blind eye to quite a few things as they just want the site to keep selling, I've notice a huge increase in buy now, in some cases searched an item 350 results, selected auction only...3!. I have some bits on there at the min all it get is questions and silly offers, in most cases the PO does better out if it than me

I did have a situation similar to your car, but I was the buyer, I won a ko transmitter, chap then contacted me and said my winning bid was no where near what he wanted and asked me to double it or he wouldn't post, did offer to leave me good feedback tho....generous of him

One big thing I noticed in the last year or so is how much lower item viewing numbers are, few years back I would put models on their and have 120+ hits in the 1st couple of days, now lucky to hit 40+ few other people in the trade have also notice a massive downturn on item hits

I buy from e-bay but have never sold. My kids use it a lot, selling household and baby items and they don't have this sort of trouble.

I think it depends on the item you are selling. If it appeals to the general public, then it seems to attract the sort of problems described above. It it appeals to parents and collectors, those looking for something specific and knowing what they are looking for, then things seem to go better.

Whichever, I find it all too confusing. Fees this, bids that, feedback the other. All my best sales have come through Oople and RaceChat, where I can check on people through friends, and by a simple ad at a National or big meeting.

As a 'shop' Ebay is fine for buying. As a sales board for selling it is pants for me.

This is a good point. I generally only buy and sell RC stuff so oople all the way. Theres always someone who knows the buyer/seller personally so things go smoothly. My experience of ebay may not be representative of the general public but I can only comment from my view.

Default yep

I have had issues for a few years both buying and selling, There fees are a rip off to...

I have purchased things and they never arrive, even thou it says recorded post I have had things sent normal post.

I ALWAYS send recorded, stops the "I never received it" line.

But that in itself is not foolproof and the stupid post office lose so many things even some that are sent recorded!!!!!!!!!

Ebay/paypal are not quick at helping and not very helpful often.....

Sadly. its the way its become.

In the past few weeks I've bought things that never arrived, sold things that didn't get paid for and had stupid offers all over the place... So pretty much everything that's been mentioned..

I've now got a couple of buy it nows on, with loads of questions (all positively answered) and loads of watchers but no buyers... Weird...

I think with eBay people like the thrill of bidding, get carried away and then don't want to pay up.. I sent two second chance offers just after the last auction and neither wanted the item, even though it was within an hour of it ending!

I got hit the other month on ebay. Sent a whole load of parcels out and accidentally got two of them mixed up. One buyer accepted by apologies and sent it on to the other buyer. The other buyer complained I was scamming him and didn't like that I wouldn't give him my email and that I kept every correspondence on ebay. I asked him to send the parcel on but he went quiet until he got his parcel from the other buyer then escalated his claim to goods not received. First I knew was that ebay had reimbursed him from my paypal account so I lost both parcels and had to reimburse the other buyer as well.

As I had gone entirely through ebay messages I contacted ebay and got the negative feedback removed, although I am supposed to negotiate the return of the other parcel with the buyer - as if that's going to happen.

10 years ago ebay was great, it was a giant car boot sale and the internet was quiet enough that all the numpties you find these days hadn't worked it out, so ebay users were generally trustworthy and new items on ebay were pretty rare. You could spend hours each day going through the r/c car section on its own. Ebay wanted more profits so put their fees up, which chased some sellers away. The cycle continued until ebay changed tactic and decided it no longer wanted to be the worlds biggest fleamarket and is now trying to be an Amazon selling new products at a fixed price and ebays rules are now set up entirely in favour of the buyer, lots of buyers attracts lots of business sellers. Big business can absorb a few hits from the blatant scammers, claiming an item wasn't received gives you an instant refund unless the buyer has proof it was delivered.

Not worth the hassle and cost these days, got plenty of stuff I would have put on there without thinking about it years ago but really don't bother unless I need the money quickly, and even that isn't guaranteed these days.

The problem is there isn't a real alternative for us all to go over to.
