anyone got a sheet, high grip astro

Hi,

I have one that's a bit of a work in progress so far, but is pretty good as a starting point hopefully...

I'm still playing with it, and have moved the rear camber link in to the middle hole since, and plan to raise it a little now to hopefully give a more progressive turn in. But that was for medium grip astro...quite sandy and dusty. For high grip the outer camber link could still be a good choice I would think...and lifted a little if it's really high grip at your track.

You might also go up a touch on oil weight all round...for the same reason.

Worked pretty well at WORM though...got a top 3 finish in the A final on it's first outing with this setup.

will proberbly got up oil in front as i like less steering.
and maybe to 27.5 rear to cope with the very high grip.

Tryed the car today in very dry conditions on High grip astro.
Straight outta the box. With 450cst front 350 cst rear.
Felt very very good. No grip roll, plenty of turn. Alot more forgiving on jumps and bumps than all my previous cars.
Car was a little nose down first on jumps, any thoughts on sorting this?

How close to the setup I posted did you end up?

Typical things to look at for nose down on jumps...

Too much front weight balance.
Front ride height to low compared to rear
Springs/damping...front too soft or rear too hard.
Antisquat.

All of which could have detrimental effects elsewhere!

That setup of mine I've found to be good on the jumps so far, so maybe just a tweak/check of ride heights could help for starters?

I ran the car at WORM this Sunday just gone...it was flippin awesome to drive!

Only changes made since I posted that previous setup...AE Red front springs (which are slightly stiffer than the yellows, and a lot stiffer than the kit springs...so also help keep the nose up!), and I'm currently on the middle hole on the rear inner camber link, with about 2.5mm/3mm spacer under it...adjusting that height to suit traction levels on track, left it high due to nice dry pretty grippy (but still a little sandy) conditions this time out.

I also ran Ballistic Buggy Whites on the rear for the first time, and they were fantastic on our track! Loads of drive, but no edgy grip roll...awesome balance on the car!

Not far off your setup to be honest.
Because im used to CST oil ive stuck with that, so will play around until i get it right. 350 is what i used to try it, although its planted through the corners, it wants to bottom out a bit on jumps. So will try 400cst. And ive got 450 in the front, which may go up to 500 ( this mite ease off the nose diving)
Blue AE springs, white AE rears
Have the 7g weight in the bulkhead slot, and about 20g on the servo, with the 62g rudebits lipo weight. Dont really want to be taking weight outta the front as it wants to wheely alot. As with the links and spacers pretty much the same and it drives really good.

Well my setup uses AE 35wt oil which is 425cst up front and AE 30wt which is 350wt. So theoretically this would be thicker oil for you up front, and the same in the rear.

Your AE blue front springs are 3.6lb/in whereas the Red ones I'm using are 3.9lb/in, so your softer up front there. No idea on the rears as I'm still on the kit set, and I've not seen a rating on the Yokomo springs so far.

So with thicker oil and softer springs your front end probably feels a fair bit softer and more damped.

From what you've said, my best guess would be stiffer front springs being worth a shot maybe? Would make the front end feel a bit more lively for sure...each time I've stepped the spring rate up at the front it's improved things, and it would help keep the front end up!

Check your slipper... out of the box I found my spur gear was far too tight on the layshaft, so the slipper wasn't working, even when the locknut was almost off the threads. A couple of quick turns on the reamer and it was sorted, and the slipper works properly, keeping the wheelies under control.

AE Red Front springs are perfect for me, with AE 35wt oil. I'm running kit blue rear springs with AE27.5wt. Kit pistons all round, although I've heard AE BB pistons work well. I've tried AE blue rear springs, but found them too hard. Not tried any AE lighter springs as yet, as the Yok kit blues seem to do the job for me. Jumps and handles perfectly, best 2wd I've run. (Tracks: Batley - grass/astro and RHR - Astro)

Backed the slipper off, seems ok as it is slipping.
Did have new yellows on a bone dry track.
Anyway will try a few things at weekend and report back.

I'm now running ae 1.6 front piston with 35wt losi oil and ae blue spring and ae 1.7 rear piston with 30wt oil losi with std kit rear. Tried an ae white spring but found it to stiff. Really happy with car now compared to taper pistons which I think are only good for indoor smooth tracks as I couldn't get them to work on rough tracks

I also found that the shock positions really make a big difference to the way this car responds. Now run middle tower inside front arm which gives a lot of steering (may try ae red spring next to calm it down a bit more) and inside tower inside rear. Car really responsive now and doesn't seem to grip roll even in high grip with a ballistic white rear

The kit slipper spring is to stiff IMO. I've used a losi hydra drive spring which is much more progressive and means I have a few threads showing on the layshaft now for peace of mind.

Ive just bought some of the Yokomo 2 hole pistons for front and rear.
And will more than likely drill them front and rears to 1.6/1.7

Ran the car yesterday and was very impressed.
It was a bit damp but the car didnt struggle for rear end grip,
more front grip. Had good initial turn but really struggled for mid on power steering. Feels a little bit sloppy maybe due to running the car a little soft.
Although the car is very safe with the setup im running now, i find its a little too safe, and im stuggling to get the quick lap times.
In my first run i didnt make 1 mistake the whole run, but found myself 20secs behind the quickest driver.

Good first impression though
