Ok i have been using the core pro for around a year now with no problems. I feel it is time to move up from this base level TX.
I have been offered a Futaba 3GR (2.4) with 2x Futaba RX for £175 from a club member (Very Good Condition) Or Should i go for a new Sanwa Gemini X for around £160 - 170 What are your thoughts? |

My own view on this is the Sanwa gear is second to none and the Gemini X is a cracking piece of kit for the money.
But if you can push to boat slightly further the Exzes X is fantastic. |

I would love the exzes. But at the minute it is out of my price range. Does the 3GR @ £175 seem good value? Or should I go for new with the Gemini x?

You can pick up a 3GR brand new for £199, so not sure if second hand at £175 is a great deal really.

I've just moved from a Ko Universe to a Gemini X and am thrilled with the unit;
1) absolutely brilliant build quality for the money (possibly better than the £400 KO Universe it replaced) 2) all the features you need (ATL, EXP, Dual Rate, Sub Trim, more model memories than ever needed etc etc etc. 3) none of the functions that are likely to confuse you ... 4) What is accepted I believe as the best of the 2.4GHz transmission protocols (FHSS3) 5) MUCH nicer fit in smaller hands than the Exzes (Why I went for, Exzes is actually uncomftable for me to hold for any length of time due to my short & slightly arthritic thumbs) 6) Back up from Jamie & the chaps at SMD is likely to be above and beyond expectation but from previous experiences of Sanwa products I doubt you will ever get to find out. Only negatives to the Gemini X are no back light for the screen and the fact that it's not going to win any modeling competitions (although functionally the ergonimics are great so makes up for it) but hey, neither of those matter do they! Adam had a Futaba 3GR and I've had a 3VC and to be honest although both worked faultlessly as you would expect from a Futaba product do feel a little cumbersome in hand compared to other stick sets. I think you can guess my recomendation |

Hi htere
I use the same logic as buying a camera, choose the best you can afford and then buy the next one up. Do not forget the rx and the servos as a fast tx is no good if you do not have the matching RX and servos CARB |

I've been doing a bit of research on radios over last couple of days as I am having a few problems with my KO/Frsky and thinking about getting one of these 2 mid-spec radios as a replacement/back-up.
Don't think you will go wrong with either - both got more functions than any of us mortals will ever need and both from brands with reputation for quality. I'd probably be swayed just to the Sanwa as you can pick one up for £160 posted from one of the sponsors at top of this page even if as Roger says it is not exactly attractive. One point you might want to consider is the cost of additional receivers if you are comparing the £175 used futaba with 2 receivers to a new one. Original manufacturers receivers for both of these are in the £80-100 region so if you run more than one car or want to carry a spare this is a big chunk extra. Hoping to sort the KO out tonight so I don't have to buy either!! Rob

I think the great value of the Gemini X is why I haven't sold my Exzes + FHSS:
http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123277 I had a KO Esprit III Universe before the Sanwa & the Sanwa's build quality is way better ![]() |

Do the Sanwa's still have that 60/40 set throttle stick?
Was the reason I always stuck with a KO Universe as I had one of the old Gemini's before it and it was awful as I would always want the same amount of brake as throttle. Others seem to do fine with the Sanwa range though , although I've heard people modify them to get the throttle stick 50/50? |
