Hey if they really are your first few I'd be pretty happy with yourself.. Loving the middle one. ( personally I'd add the glow orange into the white space somehow ) but you're talented.

If my first few come out like that I'd be impressed.

Thanks for the kind words man, truth be told i have done 1 shell previous to these, but these are the first ones with the advice from people, such as scuffing the inside of the shell, and stippling the liquid mask etc.. those 2 things alone make such a difference.

Blimey these are very impressive.. Haivng had my first go at using liquid mask the other day I am very jealous of the quality of the lines you have managed to achieve.

Keep up the good work.

Really like the yellow one, Reminds me of my first shell

The orange one, a little bit of advice. Try to make your Flames & Spike longer, When i'm painting I try to make the shell look fast when its stood still.

Best way I practice shading is get some paper,
Practice your dagger strokes until you can do them thick to thin & thin too thick with ease.

Then draw a design out on paper, some looses scribbles will do.
And follow them with your air brush.

Do that a few times till you can follow the line.

Then all you need to do is te same on your shells but treat the LM edges as your line.

Also do them in 3-4 light coats.

Easy Right???

(Also use similar colours, so if you do cock up its not overly noticeable.)

I typed out a massive long reply in this thread yesterday but have just noticed it didn't post ???

Anyway, for your first shells, cracking job ! Really tidy, no over spray or mis-masks.

Out of the 3 you've posted the yellow is my fav too. The design is stronger on that than the others although a little Mike Parker ish with his trademarked diamond on the front. Great design though.

The only thing I'd pick up on is something Coleman has also said above, he mentions about making it look fast. Graphics work best when running from the front to the rear. If you look at any full size custom paint jobs on hot rod cars or custom motorcycles you will notice the flames have the scallops at the front and their tails at the rear. Yours look the wrong way around.

Aside that though great work for your first attempts

Thanks a lot for the kind words guys, just got back from racing today after having delivered all the painted shells, and I'm surprised I could fit my head through the door when I got home! Just spurred me on to get shading!!

Got another couple of shells to paint now.... I'm off to apply some liquid mask then!!

:-)
