Default Advice on second hand cars

Hey folks, whilst looking for lazer bits I have seen a number of rc cars for sale...all seem to be at decent prices too ?!

I like the look of the team Durango DEX410.... When I last raced this firm did not even exist, can anyone give me the pro's and cons for them ?

Does Anyone have any recommendations of their own ?

Cheers

Richie

I am biased as I own a 410 but I think they are a great car. I really enjoy driving it. I bought mine second hand and (as with all second hand cars) there were a few things done differently to how I would have done them.

Things i would check are-
1. Are the drive shafts properly greased and free of rubbish.
2. What state are the bearing on the spur gear. As these have to be romoved everytime you change batteries it's easy for these to get full of grit.
3. Not ALL saddles will fit nicely. Pretty much all decent makes will but some older/cheaper cells won't.
4. Has it got decent tyres. As you are buying all 4 tyres, wheels and inserts this is not a cheap thing to do. Therefore if the car comes with a decent set or maybe a couple of decent sets consider that in your price.

Come and have a look at or try of a few different cars at the club. If you're looking at a Durango, have a word with our club Durango drivers. David Pack should have his with him this Sunday and next. Also consider what car your son is running for sharing spares etc.

The Durango is a cracking car, extremely tough but it has quite aggressive steering. They don't need much maintenance neither apart from driveshaft pins which should be changed regularly to get the maximum life out of the driveshafts, the pins are cheap so its not too bad.

If you are looking at one 2nd hand make sure the centre shafts, driveshafts and outdrives are ok. Due to the 410 having gear diffs these take a right pounding.

I have learnt the harsh way that as long as the expensive parts such as drive shafts and out drives arent worn then the rest of the car should be fine.

Also cracked or delamed carbon fibre is a git.

I learnt the harsh way earlier last year after purchasing a 502x .

A Tamiya 511 is by far the safest car to drive. Durango's are violent.

Keep your eye open there's lots of 511's being sold at Jarrow.

Hi Richie,
if you are looking at 2nd hand Durango, please consider the different models that have been available:

DEX410 - had a problem with thinner drive pins
DEX410 2010 spec - resolved the issue with 2mm drive pins
DEX410R - the entry level version of the full fat car
DEX410 V3 - the latest car with larger bore shocks .... though I have heard the durability of the V3 car is not as good as the 2010 spec car?? Durango experts, please advise.

typical there would be loads of different models hahahahaha.... i was a very aggressive driver when i last raced, but who knows perhaps i have mellowed out... i used to run a fet servo in the lazer then dial the gain back on very slippy tracks with my (then bling) Sanwa Gemini handset..... utter dog muck now no doubt

i like the look of my sons CAT but i hate the idea of all the belts.. being high wear items...then again cheaper to replace than solid shafts i suppose

i really really appreciate the responses folks so thanks again
