Vintage Tamiya

I go through spells of buying Tamiya cars to restore or already restored but I always, after a few weeks, decide to sell to focus on my Kyoshos, Schumachers, Yokomos etc etc....why is that?? Am I alone?

Now owned and sold a 1988 Avante, a Super Astute and a Hotshot 2......maybe I like to focus on the models I used to see winning back in the day with the racing heritage?!

I dunno.....can't put my finger on it......now fancy a Top Force Evo but scared I'll just sell it after a while on my shelf!?

I have also no exceptional "feelings" around Tamiya cars. In my case it's probably because I didn't know anyone running Tamiya cars when I was a kid. So, no nostalgic thoughts when I see them today. Though I have big respect for people who does

Indeed I used to long for Tamiya and drool over the cars and videos of them in the window of Beatties....I've many friends who collect Tamiya so in no way am I saying they're wrong and I'm right.

I like Tamiya a lot.

They have the best build manuals out there.

My first "serious" RC kit was the Hotshot...that was 5 years ago! I still have it. Built up. First time I experienced the lacklustre drain time of a 1200 mAH NIcd!

This was the car I dreamt of getting...I remember looking in those Littlewoods catalogues. It was the most expensive kit they had. So I thought it must be the best. Not far off. Certainly one of the most durable cars of its time.

I have a few more Tamiya cars now. Some I need to build up again!

The Thunderdragon is a nice one! I had a Thundershot that I refurbished shortly after I bought the Hotshot. Had some stress impact to the wishbones but was in good nick after I worked on it. Though made a dog's meal out of a repro shell and I lost my patience. So I let it go on Ebay! Went to some fella who wanted his son to experience the old times! I wish I had more patience for it. It would have been a nice runner.







Anyhow, I'm sure we all know projects come and projects go!

I too got started with Tamiya, a TL01 Escort Cosworth then a string of cars over the years including M01, M03 & TT01

Recently I've gone through a phase of collecting some Tamiya F1 cars, started out with an F104 Pro which was second hand and has been mostly restored to as new condition. Currently a shelf queen.

Then a NIB F201 Ferrari F2001 and finally an F103 15th Anniversary also NIB. Not sure whether to build these up as shelf queens or put them away for a rainy day.

Got offered an F102 NIB earlier in the week but it was out of my price range.

Now focusing on something I can actually run/bash...

my first car was a tamiya mad cap which i took along to my local club. i quickly found it was pretty hopeless against the club member cars such as schumacher, kyosho etc. i then bought a 2nd hand cougar 2000 followed by a lazer zx which i currently still have. Tamiya was most definitely looked upon as the beginners choice!
i tried to get back into racing again about five years back and was shocked to see everyone using TC and Tamiya! all my understanding just went out the window lol
